I switched the new pcb into the old drive and same problem so its def the firmware not the laser.  Now im gonna try a new flash on the drive again.  lol hopefully I can figure this out so I can play the new Star Ocean and finish Lost Odyssey!!!

I'd go back to the beginning and do the following:
- inject your xbox key in the ix1.51 firmware for ms28 and save the file as "sam151.bin"
- Flash the new drive with "sam151.bin"
- Read the new drive firmware and save it to "samread.bin"
- Open command prompt and go to the directory with both files and type "FC /b sam151.bin samread.bin" without quotes to compare the files bit for bit (FC comes with XP and Vista but u can use any other binary comparison tool).

If you do all that and FC says the files are identical and the xbox keeps saying "insert into an xbox360 to play this game", then it's 1 of the 2:
1- the key was corrupted at some point or for whatever reason it doesn't match the xbox key
2- there is something wrong physically with the new drive, it is defective in some way

What you can do if u still got the error, try playing a DVD movie in the xbox. Even if it gives u the "insert in 360..." for games message it should still play dvd movies as it does not require the proper key for it. If you can play a movie than u pretty much know that the drive has no optical faults... and so it's pretty much reason #1.

To be sure 100% u can try calling ur friend and see if u can borrow his drive to flash it and see if u get the same error, just make sure u BACKUP his firmware off his drive first!!! oh and I'd do it twice and compare files just to be sure

BTW, u didn't mention if ur using a 0800 disc or not, cuz my ms28 with ix1.51 won't go into vendor mode or respond to MTK open command if I don't insert that disc.

My friends in Canada and im %100 it isnt his backup cause I did his over 2 years ago and not on with my computer.  Yeah so where can I find this disc cause I do get mtk open command error but I would just power cycle my 360 for 10 seconds and that seemed to fix detection.  I did detect my drive last night in windows and even read the firware back off of it.  So im communicating with my drive fine just cant seem to get the firmware to work wtih it.  I have tried the newest firmware from xbins and also 1.4 both dont work.  I feel like im doing something wrong or the software im using to load the new key isnt working correctly.  Or the spoof trick in the software isnt working.  Who knows idk what software is best.  I wish there was an all inclusive software that did everything and gave me positive results.

Ok dosflash32 is up and running and I read the firmware off of the new pcb again.  Its now showing up as a ms25 which seems good and does have the key when checked with 360fw tool.  I might break down and send both my PCBs to someone to have them flash my new key onto the new one.  I am feeling so stuck right now.

well u can always try jungleflasher, it can do everything from inserting the key and spoofing to writing and reading.

Jungleflasher dosnt find my drive for some reason.

It doesn't find mine either unless i use the 0800 disc, and i click on "device id" in the flash tab
