My Flashing Success Story
« on: March 10, 2009, 02:46:00 PM »

Just thought maybe a thread with success stories would help people who have questions about certain setups, etc.  Heres Mine:

Xbox Elite 2008
BenQ DVD Drive Stock firmware
IXtreme 1.51

Computer used:
Dell Optiplex 755 using onboard SATA
ICH9R/DO chipset
Windows Vista Business 32 Bit, .NET 3.5
Jungle Flasher 1.5.1

Steps:
-Removed CDROM from desktop
-Moved HDD to SATA Port1
-Connected XBOX drive to SATA PORT0, using XBOX power
-Must enter BIOS and change SATA mode to ATA (as opposed to AHCI)
-Boot into Vista, turn on console
-Manually install PortIO driver following readme
-Open Jungle Flasher, Unlock BenQ, Read and save, Open target file, spoof info, save new firmware file, Write, Vendor Outro
-Just as a test, i did the half open tray technique to unlock, and re-read the drive to make sure iXtreme was indeed flashed.

Problems Encountered:
-For this chipset/setup, you MUST use Vista using ATA SATA mode.  I tried XP in AHCI, and it doesn't work.  If you try putting it on ATA mode, XP will not boot, you will get a blue screen because the legacy ATA driver is not installed.
-The XBOX shut off just as Jungle Flasher started writing the hacked firmware.  I almost sh1t a brick.  Luckily, I ended JF, turned the xbox back on, opened JF and everything still worked as before.

Hope this helps someone on here.

I heard that powering the driver using Xbox power will make a LOG into your console, this procedure is not recommended at all! Use your computer to power on your driver, keep your xbox far away

Wow, get off your high horse.  I believe that c4eva at one time noted that in the live logs, Microsoft *can* detect when a 360 is powered up with no SATA device plugged in.

Just because they're not banning based on this doesn't mean they can't.  Why would you take the risk if you don't need to?

Anyway, congrats on a successful flash.

Thanks for this info, I wasn't aware of this potential issue.  Every tutorial i read said to connect it that way.  I do not have the connectivity kit/power adapter so it wasn't an option anyway.   Anyway, I took the risk, I will update if any banning occurs.
