Lite-on R710 Bridged But Problems Getting The Key
« on: March 09, 2009, 03:32:00 AM »

hi,

while trying to connect the r707 and r708 i broke the r710 resistor, i read at other places that i can simply bridge the r710 if something like this happened, thats what i did.

So here's my problem:

Drive seems to be working fine, i can eject it by pressing the button on the xbox and the drive is detected by my sata card.
But when trying to read the key with jungleflasher it's empty every time (000...). When trying to read it with dvdkey ( windows ) it tells me invalid serial data.

Can i see the output of the max232 through hyperterminal or realterm, just to check the debug mode of the liteon is enabled ?

Another issue i stumbled over is:
- all the tutorials and threads i read, said if i eject the drive, take away power, push it half in manually and power it on again it won't close but mine always tries to close after this procedure.
If i stop it manually while driving back in, the motor detects something blocking and stays open a while, until the xbox power's off and the drive tries to close again.

thanks for your help,

Try pressing the manual eject bar, when drive is upside down theres a small black bar to the bottom right corner, push it in with a screwdriver and the tray will pop out.

I use this method with a CK2, you are using the xbox to power so I dont know if what I said would work but it's worth a shot.

thanks, i'll try this when i'm home but the ejecting does already work, so i don't think this will fix the issue.

briding the r707 is not needed afaik due its transmit and you are not transmitting anything through max232 i tried to solder it previously due my tutorial was not that clear that i only need to bride r708

R707 NEEDS to be bridged unless you are using a solderless method.

R708 does not need to be bridged.

the eject still working so i assume i've not fried anything yet. But to be sure i want to solder a new 100 ohm resistor for the fried r710.

Can anyone confirm i can do it like described in the picture, when the resistor is in the middle of the red line?
And if so do the 2 original solder points need to be bridged or splitted?

Yes, put a resistor where the red line is, and make sure the points where the resistor was are NOT bridged.
