Using Jungle To Flash Hitachi 79
« on: March 08, 2009, 08:57:00 PM »

I currently have 1.4xtreme I tried to restore my drive to original then I was going to flash to 1.51 but when selecting the option to restore firmware is says failed everytime. I have put the drive in mode b and is seen by windows and then I manually unlocked the drive using the audio cd since that option in the jungle program wasn't working.

I personally used firmware toolbox 4.8 and had no problems with both 79s I flashed. I used ftb cause I read people having issues with windows freezing using jungle.

Using ftb not an option for you?

I had the same problem today trying to flash a 79, I just used FWTB instead, worked great.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but just to clarify, can you do the whole flashing process to 1.51 with FWTB instead of Jungleflasher?

No, I tried yesteday and FWtoolbox only detects one difference sector between stock and 1.5.1 (from memory it was checksum?) So yo cannot use FWToolbox 4.8 for iXtreme 1.5.1

Yes you can... First restore your drive with your orig.bin, copy the key then open up the iX 1.51 accordingly to the version of your drive and key location, paste your key and save it (technically you don't even have to do this since FWTB will ask if you want to keep the key on the drive), then flash it (patch, not restore) and it'll ask if you want to keep the key you currently have on the drive, hit yes unless you do want to replace the key already on the drive.

I flashed two 79's yesterday and they both worked fine.

I used FWTB 4.8 to do an install of 1.51 on a fresh 79 and on a previously modded 79 .(iX1.4) I had no issues with either one. Of course on the previously modded 79 I had to restore the orig fw but that was np either.

i did my 79 with no problem in JF. just make sure you have all of the Hitachi firmwares in the JungleFlasher "firmware" folder and you shouldn't have a problem restoring it to original like it asks

Had the same issue here, but just just switched it to use Win API mode instead of Port I/O and it worked like a charm!!

will this work with vista or do I need xp? I have tried jungle and firmwaretoolbox and both lockup when trying to flash. any ideas

Nevermind I tried it again via jungle and it worked finally. the only thing I did different this time is let jungle unlock the audio cd instead of me manually doing from a command prompt.
