I recently purchased a few Samsung SH-D163BSB01 DVD-Rom drives and had a couple issues attempting to flash them. I tried a few different things and was eventually successful but with some unexpected results.
Most who know Kreon know that using a Kreon drive on a 6421 PCI card, IDE or SATA, just doesn't work. I dont have onboard SATA, only IDE. I use a 6421 pci card for all my SATA connections, but I was completely aware of all of these factors when purchasing these drives as they are not for me but for friends whose PC's do have onboard SATA ports. What I wasn't aware of is that not only can you not use a 6421 PCI card with a Kreon flashed drive, you cant even FLASH a Kreon capable drive (with the supplied app) when connected to a 6421 PCI card.
In my attempt I got this message.

So I scanned the forums to no avail and decided to go ahead and try the -no check option.
In my attempt I got this message.

So I got bold...I noticed that the Kreon firmware is 256kb just like 360 drive fw. I booted Jungle Flasher and the drive was recognized under drive properties in the MTK Flash Tab. I clicked Intro/Device ID and got a valid flash status (IMG:

Hope on the horizon...according to that message I should have no problem flashing the kreon fw with Jungle Flasher as it insinuates the capability so I proceed to erase the drive successfully and I load up my Kreon firmware to the Target area and proceed to write but I then receive this message

Okay no problem I click Yes and then I get this message

Rats!
I then renamed my Kreon firmware to samcfw.bin and flashed it using iPrep 8.8.
When I initially bought my first Kreon drive it was pre-flashed. I plugged it in to my 6421 SATA PCI card and when trying to backup my first game with XBC the 'Start' button would never light up, it would just stay grey and unusable. I mentioned this earlier...Kreons dont work with PCI cards but it does see that its Kreon flashed so in my mind I just wanted to check if XBC would recognize the Kreon firmware on the drive I myself just flashed using this unorthodox method, not only did it recognize it, it can backup games even though it's connected through the 6421 PCI card (IMG:

Hey don't get me wrong I'm not complaining but that is weird. I have had a couple of different SATA kreon flashed drives and they just don't work with PCI cards but this one does!
Was it my flashing method? I mean I know that it's the same firmware but maybe because I flashed it using a PCI card then it works with PCI cards... I don't know but I thought I would share the experience.
To sum it up the drives all successfully backed up working copies of original games.
Just out of curiosity has anyone successfully flashed a Kreon capable drive using Jungle Flasher?
