Problem With Flashing Hitachi 59
« on: February 12, 2009, 03:48:00 PM »

I have been following Textbooks tutorial. I installed my Rosewill VIA VT6421 SATA card and disabled the on-board SATA on the computer. I have a SATA cable running from PC to the Xbox 360 drive and I have the SLAX disc in the Xbox 360 drive. I power on both the PC and the Xbox and when my PC gets to the VIA Boot screen it is recognizing the Xbox drive, but it is not going any further. I don't have a hard drive hooked up to the PC or another CD-Rom drive. The only thing I can think of is that I didn't install the drivers before installing the Sata card.

What I mean by not proceeding is that the screen I am at is:

VIA Technologies, Inc. VIA VT6421 V-RAID CDROM BOOT BIOS v5.20
Copyright © VIA Technologies, Inc. All Right reserved.
6421R520.ROM - FOR RAID

Scan Devices,Please wait...
No Raid
                            Ctrl10 Chn10 Master        HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR3120L        - SATAPI mode

Press <Ctrl+Z> Key into User Window!

When I hit Ctrl+Z nothing happens.

Thanks for the help.

As far as I know, you can't flash Hitachi drives with the via chipset.
Atleast I can't.
I have to use My Asus mobo pc with the Intel sata chipset,
and flash from within XP.

Takashi is incorrect. You can flash Hitachi's with a VIA chipset, you can flash every drive with a VIA chipset.
There is no reason to use Slax when flashing a Hitachi. Podger created a wonderful little tool aptly named the Mode B Utility and it has been integrated into Jungle Flasher. Getting into mode B is as simple as pressing a button on Jungle Flasher...this may be blasphemous to say in these forums but I think we can all agree that although Textbook's tutorial is full of great info, especially for the noobish crowd... it's a little outdated when it comes to flashing techniques.

If you would like me to explain the process with Jungle Flasher let me know.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It very well could be the standalone flashing PC i built that can't,
not necessarily the via card within it.
I just never bothered to diagnose it further.
Out of the almost 60 consoles i've flashed,
I've ran into 4 Hitachi's, thank god!
They suck!

Also I just re-read the OP and you stated you had the Slax disc in the xbox drive...that is incorrect. If you were to use the slax disc to get into mode b you would be inserting it into the PC's Master drive and you boot it through you PC's bios menu/quick boot menu.

Thanks for all the info, yeah it was kinda vague on what exactly to do. If you wouldn't mind giving me a little info on Jungle Flasher that would be great. Thanks for the help!!!

Plug in your Hitachi 59 and power it on
Start Jungle Flasher go to the Hitachi GDR3120 Tab
Under Port Properties select the correct port for your Hitachi 59
Under Drive Revision click the 58/59 bubble
Under Drive select your Hitachi GDR3120l ROM 0059
Under Transfer Method click the Classic bubble
Under Flashing Options click the Dump Drive bubble
Under Port Properties ensure that your Hitachi drive is recognized and click Send Mode-B
After it completes click Open and the Hitachi tray should open
Insert a retail DVD movie or Xbox 360 game (retail meaning not burned) and click Close to close the tray
Make sure to stop any autorun caused by inserting the DVD and click Read to Source
Jungle Flasher will now read your Hitachi 59 original firmware and ask you to save it (name it orig.bin).
After saving, Jungle Flasher should automatically direct you to the Firmware Tool 32 Tab with your stock 59 firmware open in source
Now open your iXtreme1.4_Hitachi.rar and double click fwpack.rar.
Right click on 59_16-12x.bin and select Extract to specified folder choose a location and select OK
In Jungle Flasher, under the Firmware Tool 32 Tab, click Open Target Firmware and navigate to the 59_16-12x.bin you extracted and open it
Now click Spoof Source to Target and Jungle Flasher will inject your key into the Hitachi 59 ixtreme 1.4 hacked firmware.
Go back to the Hitachi GDR3120 Tab
Ensure that your Hitachi drive is still selected.
Under Flashing Options click the Flash Hacked F/W bubble
Click the Flash Hacked F/W button and Jungle Flasher will flash your hacked firmware.
Once it completes, go ahead and power down, plug the drive back into the 360 and test her out.

Hope that helped!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Great guide, thanks for the help. I am having problems with Windows detecting my Xbox drive. If I try to turn on my PC with the xbox turned on, the PC doesn't load. If I turn it on after windows has loaded, I get an error when I load Jungle Flash saying Windows - Drive is not ready, try closing the CD tray or something. This is the card I am using: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16816132012

Is this a problem with my PC?

Hey vorny I got mine working fine. You need the new Jungle Flasher 1.51. What I did was load up windows completely then turned on my xbox and loaded up Jungle Flasher and put it in mode B. When I restart the computer and windows loads up again the drive is detected and everything is fine. I was reading that you can't flash with Jungle Flasher until the new release they came out with like 2 days ago.
