Cellphone Data Cable

Alright here's the long awaited confirmation that this device indeeeed work flawlessly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif), I bought an xbox360 yesterday and flashed it today WITH the exact same extractor on previous pictures except for 1 thing, i noticed the holes where very much zoomed on peoples PCB images so, my estimation of the needle probe thickness was wrong with a bout a gazzilion millimeters (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) no not really. Just switched it to a smaller one and soldiered it back on the RX cable.

I recommend Yaywoop's guide coupled with this extractor, since that thread is over 50 pages with Q/A.
Secondly, he seems to be a nice guy even to the lowest of noob (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) And third the guide covers people without CK3 power switch.

To anyone wondering about the dvd power. I used the Xbox360 to power my dvd as well as "unplug pin3" method. Pretty much painless although problems could occur if you're a fan of Mcdonalds and tinker with them fat fingers of yours (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Im off playing! bbl

Sweet I bought one of these of ebay the other day for $4. I like the way you can keep the cable looking nice, I assume the pieces can go back over the board. That's the main reason I want to do it this way. Glad it worked, I love how people come up with these ideas on here, its great.

If you are willing to buy that then why not buy the DKU-5 cable? Also like takashi said that's not even the right cable.

I bought a dku 5 but it didn't have a max232 convertor or anything. So im asking before i buy another one

Despite having a perfectly decent home made fully working serial reader I'm intrigued by this.
I have just spent the whole afternoon stripping my DKU-5 that I've had for years.
Inside the rubber casing there was a lump of solid black epoxy covering the entire board and chip. It's been an absolute nightmare to remove.... I can't tell you how hard it's been. Scalpel and pyro-pen.... jeez I thought it was back to the days of Hitachi 79 chipping.
Anyhow, despite that the board is really quite complex underneath. A lot more so than the pics posted here.
What I basically have is an inability to follow the wites back to source. All I have at the end of the PCB is wires coming off the PCB All numbered as follows.
1) Yellow
2) Blue
3) Red
4) Green
5) White

Not entirely sure if these correspond to the legs on the I.C.
If anyone else has this type of DKU-5 and got it working.... what's the right wire please?
As I say, I have a fully working 2323 but I am curious.
Thanks

Wow really? I had assumed all DKU-5 had some type of USB - TTL conversion, mind taking some pictures of yours ? Its really weird since all of them should work with the same type of mobile phones straight through USB doesn't. Opening my casing shows no indication on the pcb, of a max2323 chip being present. My PCB has a OTI-6858 chip which is the USB -> RS232 bridge controller, Datasheet can be found here

Oh ok I see, man that sucks. I hope mine doesn't end up like that one. Does it look the same besides different chip and different wiring? Where did you buy yours? Hey datenshiz do you think this one will work HERE

Hm, im far from an expert on Nokia DKU-5 cables. So im unable to guarantee the cable will work. That being said it does look like it contains the PCB for conversion, I yet to read any report of a DKU-5 cable that wasn't working, other then ruleys report just now. We'll have to wait for possible images on his cable. But your cable Strawsy looks like it's covered by rubber which someone in this thread earlier said was a pain in the *** to strip off to get into the PCB.

Btw people there are far more datacables out there that does this type of conversion, check the link in my OP scrolling through that thread on msdn shows plenty of different cables people have used for the same purpose i initially used my DKU-5 cable for, there's no significant difference between them. If they work they work.

I'm using an nokia CA-42 clone cable.

It has 6 wires.

Rx ---> Green
Tx ---> White
3.3V --> Orange
GND --> Red

And two not relevant wires.
R3 --> Yellow
R4 --> Blue

I'm going to try and make a probe with two LED's which indicate power to the probe and also a successful connection to the TX point on the DVD-drive.
Just like the original CK3 Probe.

For the Power On LED, I'll use the Orange and Red wires.

And a safety pin connected to the Green (Rx) wire for the actual spear.

My question is how do i connect the wires to the LED that indicate a successful connection to the TX point?

I will be powering the DVD-drive from my 360, and i have a spare 360 DVD Power cable to play around with.

Thanks!

Will DKU-2 work ? Can't seem to make out what is the difference after reading:
http://pinouts.ru/Ce...le_pinout.shtml

Does that mean no Rx point for DKU-2 ?

Thanks.

Try removing the epoxy to see whats underneath. That is what mine looked like but it didn't have the epoxy. @strawsy I bought it off ebay from a aussie seller, and it came in a rubber case. I have since purchased a second one in a hard case like the one from the op

Guys, I have followed the entire thread and I just have a couple of questions which I either don't think have been answered or I may have not understood.

1-I get this cellphone data cable and just connect the RX end to my DVD drive and nothing else since I'm connecting my dvd drive to my xbox for power?

2- What I do with the rest of the wires that are on the cable like the TX/VCC/GND?  Do I need to attach them to the dvd drive or anywhere?

3-  I saw this written by DatenShiz "I used the Xbox360 to power my dvd as well as "unplug pin3" method" and confued about unpluging pin3. Where is this pin 3 and how do you unplug it? can I just use the trick of quickly powering my 360 off when the tray is half way in?

Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance.
