sorry how do u send a random text, what do you use to connect the wire with to send text in.

Regards
pion

You connect the wires by twisting them together? tongue.gif twist RX and TX cable together. Then open Realterm or Hyperterminal(built in xp, check Startmenu->programs->accessories->Communication?->Hyperterminal) and select the COM port thats your Extractor and write random text and press ENTER. This isn't necessary its a step to test that your cable work at all. It could be used once you've put the extractor together, just wire the TX around your probe to make a connection.
What it does is it sends the random text down the TX wire and then the RX wire picks it up and sends it back to the computer. Loopback test.

rangersicx: Oh my, i might have to pimp my extractor a little. Great stuff u got there smile.gif

Just as a precautionary I suggest not to test it by touch the probe end to the usb end. As I was bridging rx to tx I accidentally bridged it to 3.3v as well....it locked up my computer and I believe the usb port is now dead. The cable works though...so yeah.

Not sure if this is a question for this thread, or yaywoop's, or a jungleflasher thread -- do I need to keep the probe at Tx while using Jungleflasher's Lite-On Erase function?

I just can't get it to work -- just keeps saying Device Intro Failed. I've tried it with and without the probe, quickly unplugging and replugging the dvd power each time.

Used the DKU-5 cord from ebay for $4; also says KQ-U8A on it. Got the key with no problem, it's the erasing that's messing it up now.

This extractor is only for fetching the key. When that's finished there's no need to use it. I had some problems with erasing as well. I would assume its Jungleflasher still being in beta. I did what it told me to do, to power cycle the drive when that message appeared. Then when it came back up it didn't show up in jungleflasher so i just sent a new erase on that device port which finished and then i told it to write and presto. I'm sure there's plenty of peeps who know more then me concerning jungleflasher, and I'd love to know about this as well.

Jungleflasher failed to get past the erase portion of the hack.  Dosflash worked perfect 4x for my erase and flashing.  I just used the converted DKu-5 cable in XP with Arkmicro drivers and Jungleflasher to get my key and critical files, and create the ixtreme firmware.

I found the best way for me to erase the liteon without a on/off button on the dvd drive is to power the whole 360 down when it gives the message to power cycle. Just turn it off when that message pops up and when the 360 comes back on...hurry up and hit erase and it should do it. You have to get the timing right....but a couple times and you will get it.

I'll try this before going the DOS route. When you say to power off the 360 "when it gives the message to power cycle", do you mean when the dialog box pops up with the last warning, i.e., BEFORE hitting "yes"?

Hi, I am from Bulgaria and my english is not so good.. Thank You all!!! I've made it Lite-ON flashed with SIEMENS Data Cable (Mobile Action MA-8720C) BUT it just worked with these drivers ( http://ds.mobileacti...emSetup_USB.exe on this site http://global.mobile...o...D=47&go= Go extract the .exe and use the drivers in ModemSetup_USB\USB-Device-Driver\MA-2000) AND use (I don't know why BUT) TX (pin 3) on the data cable (as you can see here http://www.pinouts.r...55_pinout.shtml seen like you are gonna put it in the phone) and the pin 707 on the xbox 360 lite-on dvd drive!!! I have my key with JungleFlasher & Windows Vista! Yes Vista just use the drivers! All done. I have take the key in windows, swap with ixtreme 1.5.1 in windows, delete the lite-on in windows with JungleFlasher but flash in dos.  first i've tried with the drivers for dca-510 but it doesn't worked (i have dca-510 - not tried with the new drivers, but it must work too!!!) all the siemens data cables for this models must work: http://pinouts.ru/co...connector.shtml

No need to cut my data cable - use a needle! smile.gif (i've just cut the needle ear and stuk it on the cable or just you can use a peace of paper clip)

Sorry for my english but i am very exited! Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today i've played my backups!! It worked!!!

Well I got my CA-45 cable.

It has a PL-2303 chip and the drivers work fine in Vista. I can't test the cable with a Lite-On yet because only my mate has on to test biggrin.gif.

In the mean time, it only has 3 wires.

Pin 6 (Orange), Pin 9 (Red or Blue) and Pin 12 (Red or Blue). It's Red or Blue because I put the cable away for now and can't remember which pins they went to ><.

How can I test which cables are which?

I'm TRYING to use HyperTerminal and test it by twisting each combination of wire together, and I couldn't get it working, then now HyperTerminal tells me the COM port is in use everytime!

I tried changing to a different USB port, un/re installing the PL-2303 drivers. Nothing. It's always telling me it's in use, but it's not!

Buzz44 :
Ehm, by doing that u might have ruined the chip. One of those wires you twisted might have been voltage from the USB port. Not wise, u might even damage the USB port. Always know which cable contains voltage before attempting something like that. You might want to read this http://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=9453

I could find nothing about my chip pinouts either and had already chopped up the cable so couldn't match them up that way. I just used trial and error.

Looked in device manager to see what com port the cable was using.

Downloaded realterm (free). Went to Ports tab, switched it to right com port, hit Change, made sure Open was pushed.

Went to Send tab, typed a message in the "send" box, kept hitting "send ascii" while trying different wire combinations. Not a good idea, but it worked. For me it was the blue wire.

yeah it IS a method, which would work if u find the right cable. But its still a very risky method (for the cable PCB and USB port) and should always be used as a last resort if any other option is out. I can't really recommend it. Still if i was in the same situation, after googling around for an educated guess, i would probably do it. I'll say it again to make sure people understand DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS unless there's no other way to find out which cable is RX and even then, remember this could damage the cable and/or USB port.

The USB appears to be fine. Still works, can plug my phone into it etc. The cable/chip seems to be ok aswell? Windows picks it up fine, no hardware issues etc.

From what I can tell, everything is fine O_o, just HyperTerminal tells me it's in use all the time!

I'll report back later ^^.

Success! Atleast with a HyperTerminal loopback test (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif), with some help from seamonkeydo12.

Since seamonkeydo12 had a CA-45 cable, I asked him for some help on how to identify my 3 wires, and he presented me with the simple idea of working backwards!

This diagram is the pinout for the PHONES the CA-45 cable connects to > http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-Nokia/nok...0e_pinout.shtml

Using this I cut apart the OTHER end of the cable so I could see which pins my wires lead to. Alas, the Red and Blue wires lead to pin's 2 and 3 so they are Rx and Tx, and my mysterious Orange wire leads to the metal part / shell pin so I can only assume that it's GND.

Now I had successfully identified the wires I can begin work on the loopback test.

I still had no luck on my Vista machine, where HyperTerminal does NOT come with Windows. In XP it is native, so in Vista you have to download it.

I thought this may be the problem so I proceeded to try HyperTerminal natively on an XP machine. Still no luck.

AND THEN!

I noticed that the constant twisting of the wires had broken a significant amounts of wire strands off on the Red Wire. I then cut all the wires back about 1cm, and stripped them again. I then twisted the Red/Blue wires together, which I know now are Rx and Tx, tried HyperTerminal on the XP machine and it worked! I then tried it on my Vista machine and it also worked!

I'm not sure why Vista produced the error of the COM port in use, and XP did not, and why it produced and error at all!

Anyway's, I hope that helps anyone else who is having problems with there cable.

Now I just need to wait to get my hands on my mates Lite-On (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif).
