Success! Atleast with a HyperTerminal loopback test (IMG:

Since seamonkeydo12 had a CA-45 cable, I asked him for some help on how to identify my 3 wires, and he presented me with the simple idea of working backwards!
This diagram is the pinout for the PHONES the CA-45 cable connects to >
http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-Nokia/nok...0e_pinout.shtmlUsing this I cut apart the OTHER end of the cable so I could see which pins my wires lead to. Alas, the Red and Blue wires lead to pin's 2 and 3 so they are Rx and Tx, and my mysterious Orange wire leads to the metal part / shell pin so I can only assume that it's GND.
Now I had successfully identified the wires I can begin work on the loopback test.
I still had no luck on my Vista machine, where HyperTerminal does NOT come with Windows. In XP it is native, so in Vista you have to download it.
I thought this may be the problem so I proceeded to try HyperTerminal natively on an XP machine. Still no luck.
AND THEN!
I noticed that the constant twisting of the wires had broken a significant amounts of wire strands off on the Red Wire. I then cut all the wires back about 1cm, and stripped them again. I then twisted the Red/Blue wires together, which I know now are Rx and Tx, tried HyperTerminal on the XP machine and it worked! I then tried it on my Vista machine and it also worked!
I'm not sure why Vista produced the error of the COM port in use, and XP did not, and why it produced and error at all!
Anyway's, I hope that helps anyone else who is having problems with there cable.
Now I just need to wait to get my hands on my mates Lite-On (IMG:
