Cellphone Data Cable
« Reply #75 on: March 11, 2009, 10:40:00 AM »

Yeah it is for the ti-89. I read the description and it says it coverts from serial to usb for sure but I'm not sure it does rs232 to ttl. When I plug it in it doesn't come up as serial, it comes up as regular usb? So I assume it doesn't do the conversion I need. Would have been another neat idea. I still haven't received my dku-5 cable from ebay yet. I am waiting to try this out.

Thanks for the info! Are you running XP or Vista? Is it an "official" cable from Nokia? Did you have to install drivers?

Either way you'll have to install some type of driver that takes an USB device and simulate it as a serial COM port. And Yes, there might not be drivers for your DKU-5 cable in Vista, It depends whether or not the chip inside that cable has support. But it would be great if someone could test their cable in a VMware environment running XP, that would be up to VMware if its handling the cable correctly.

Yeah there's no DKU-5 drivers for Vista. There is drivers for CA-42 though.

I've ordered a CA-45 cable, hopefully the CA-42 drivers will work for it. I'll test XP in VMWare aswell and see how it goes.

I believe the chip in the CA-42/45 is a Prolific PL-2302.

using one of those dku-5 usb phone cables will definitely work. they contain (functionally) the same chip as a CK3 pro.
you could also buy one of these, which are the same thing http://alldav.com/in...76d061b39e5640a

also using a serial data cable works too. I pulled one apart the other day, it contained a max3232..

i had already purchased that item - which i found myself from the link in the original post for this thread

i purchased one of those usb-ttl converters on friday or saturday and it arrived monday! they are super fast and the thing works perfectly with windows key extraction tools.

it is not so hard to find drivers either...
here let me help you with that search:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q...i vista drivers

it took me 3 minutes to solder the wire and needle, plus another 5 minutes to finish it up with some hot glue and a writing pen. i used extra wire for my probe and taped the usb pcb to the pen because i wanted to have the option to extend the reach should the need ever occur.

you need a usb to mini cable, but we all have plenty of those...

Ok I have opened my cable up and it looks just like yours but the wires are different colors.  Mine is actually labeled rxd, txd, 3.3v. The problem I have now is...like I stated before I cannot get windows to recognize the cable. Any ideas?

Is that cable for a calculator? does it have an RX wire? if it does it might work.
To test the RX TX channels on your cable, connect them and then open Realterm, select whatever COM port thats your Extractor and send random text in the terminal. The same line of text should echo back in the terminal. if it does its working fine.

sorry how do u send a random text, what do you use to connect the wire with to send text in.

Regards

As I've mentioned in previous posts, there are no drivers are the DKU-5 cable for Vista. You can try the XP drivers and maybe get lucky.

Or you could try XP in VMWare, otherwise you will have to use another computer or dual boot or something.

I tried the cable on xp and it doesn't work on it either. Man this would have been really nice to. I'm not about to order another cable...the home made extractor works. I guess I will just stick with that.

Are you sure you're using the right drivers? Did you get it cheap off Ebay? If so tell whoever you bought it off the cable doesn't work and they'll most likely send a replacement out to you.

I got it to work on vista yes....driver here. Now how do I test this thing. I tested it the same way I tested my home made cable and it doesn't work. It has rx, tx, and 3.3v on one side then on the other side it has r3, r4, ground.

Ok I think I just figured that out. I had to connect the probe end of rx to the usb part of rx and tx. When I did this it returned random characters in hyperterminal like my home made cable does. Now I wonder if this will work by only using the rx when I read from a lite-on.

I bought a DKU-5 USB Data Cable for NOKIA from eBay and the Rx wire is green on this one. It been working fine for me on XP with Jungle Flasher  1.5.1 and the driver I use is  Nokia Data Cable DKU-5 driver and usb to uart driver.  I use device manager to scan for the usb to uart driver that I extract from the rar.

Thank You Datenshiz great tut

That is the same exact one I bought. Even from the same seller and everything. That driver wouldn't work on my computer though, I had to download the one I posted. I have vista but you can gather that from previous posts. This is a lot better than the homemade version which was sweet in the first place. Now if I knew how to add an on/off and eject switch this would be perfect.
