I successfully got the key first…
I got hold of another Liteon to flash that first as a test and managed it successfully.

But then when I attempted to do my own one I was careless and must have shorted the pins on the power connector while doing that pesky power off and on within 1 second. Result is that the PC won’t boot up when the drive is connected. Tried connecting the drive to the XBOX and got this really weird gray screen (error E45 or E65 or something??) accompanied with a xbox red light in the number 3 quadrant!

Anyone know if the drive is at all repairable? Any suggestions are MUCH appreciated. E.g. replace board from another drive?

Other question is: How are folks doing this quick power cycle if they don’t have a connectivity kit (as I don’t)?
I was just pulling the power connector but it’s a- really hard to do quickly and b- prone to disaster
Can you do this by pulling the xbox power? Or quickly toggling the power button on the front panel of the xbox? I suspect it may be too slow?

Sounds like you've killed your Lite-On. As long as you've already got the Key.bin etc, just replace the drive. I'd advise getting a connectivity kit of some description.

You didn't fry your liteon you just have a partially erased flash.  Go into DOS, fully erase the flash (there's some methods around here if you do some searching), and flash it with your hacked firmware.  Here (from http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=673708, ty Bong):

PC freezing issue:

If you were in windows and using Jungle Flasher and you have successfully got your key and created your firmware from your dummy.bin or even have got as far as getting your key, inquiry, and identify.bin files, then you should be ok, just make a dummy.bin and then make your liteon firmware!

So your pc froze? You were erasing your liteon and then when you did the power cycle, your PC froze? Well you are in luck. As long as your key, inquiry, and identify.bin files were correct, then you can save your drive. What will happen at this point is your drive will no longer eject, so you think oh no bricked drive. This can be fixed. Make sure you can boot to DOS by floppy or USB drive and have the proper files on it.

You will need L-O-Eras.exe, latest dosflash16, and your hacked firmware file. Well what you do, restart your PC with your liteon connected, but not powered on, boot to DOS. Once you get to DOS restore power to your liteon drive. Go to where your files are.

Type L-O-Eras SATAPORT <-- put in your sata port that your drive is connected too. If you don't know your sata port, you can do dosflash really fast and figure out which port has the liteon drive on it. So after you do L-O-Eras SATAPORT you should return status FF72 I believe. I haven't had to do this way for awhile so if I made a mistake on the status please PM me so I can fix this. After you do this, go type DOSFLASH, then enter the proper # for the port that has the liteon drive on it. Then type W for write. Then enter your hacked firmware file, usually lite_cfw.bin then it will erase and write the firmware to your drive. After it is done, turn the power off on your drive, then turn it back on and press eject and if it does, problem solved!

Now you have flashed your firmware to your Liteon drive, put your system back together and test a backup.

Please don't make dumb useless posts unless you've done your homework and tried everything you possibly can.

same thing happened to me....

This is the IDIOT proof way to flash LITEON:
1 ) Get keys, inquiry and identify files Via Xtractor or Xecuter v3 (how to read manufacters homepage)
2 ) Prepare firmware with JungleFlasher tools
3 ) Download Bootable USB software from HERE! (http://gocoding.com/page.php?al=bootflashdos) thx mathy1 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
4 ) Make USB stick bootable!
5 ) Copy Dosflash16 v1.7, L-O-Eras.exe and Liteon  firmware to USB stick
6 ) Shut down PC
7 ) Remove powercables from EVERY other ATA/SATA devices (DVD-ROM, Hard drives etc. Why? Check step 9.)
8 ) Start PC, with USB stick in and boot to DOS (Keep Liteon powered off!)
9 ) Turn on liteon and type "Dosflash" (Now you can see what port Liteon is mapped, because there are NO other devices available! THIS IS IDIOT PROOF!)
10 ) Terminate DosFlash with ESC
11 ) Type: "L-O-Eras (Port)" This is the tricky part, Drive must report FF72, retype this as long as it does! You may need to powercycle drive between attempts
12 ) When Drive reports FF72 stop L-O-Eras typing!
13 ) Type: "DosFlash W (PORT) 1 A0 2 0 4 C:\fw.bin 0"
14 ) Wait for the drive to be flashed! (If this fails start from step 11! You may also need to powercycle drive between L-O-Eras and DosFlash, I didn't have to!)

I just wanted to add something about erasing.

I did 2 liteons.
Never used L-O-ERAS. Never
Lastly I tried, but got only "status 80".
So...
guess what..

I just did it in Dosflash and it worked OK (like with my first liteon)

Just booted to DOS,
Powered the drive ON
typed l-o-e-ras - no success
so typed dosflash, choosed "LITEON E" for liteon erasing
started dosflash again. This time W (write) to flash.
And tadaaam. Everything works*. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

*) Besides my serial which had been corrupted while using firmtool 1.3 instead of 1.31 (pay attention people! it's important)

P.S. I don't remember now if I just turned the drive on during the process or I made the drive into "halfopen" state.
Used xbox360 motherboard for powering the drive. Don't have connectivity kit.

Hope it brings anything to discussion.

Success !  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Booted up in DOS from a USB drive as per Jeffrey's instructions and manged to get it all working again.

After setting up as described and getting the drive powered on, I ran l-o-eras and it returned 0xFF80. Hmmm not what I was expecting but it looked promising. Any response at this stage would be!
Ran l-o-eras again (straight after) and it returned 0xFF72. Even more promising.

At this point I tried to flash but it was having none of it, so I power cycled and ran the command straight away, formatted as Jeffrey said, more or less which was

DosFlash W D480 1 A0 2 0 4 A:\hacked.bin 0

..and it did it! Everything was working again. I really didn't think it would fix it but it did.

Having used both JungleFlasher (Win XP) successfully once and this method (DOS) successfully once, I'd strongly recommend DOS, especially if you don't have a connectivity kit. None of this power cycling within 1 second malarky. It is 10 times easier in DOS.

Thanks for your help here guys - it made my night.

Thanks to derajenator for pointing out the other thread - you're right I should have noticed that. So I'll concede this post was a bit dumb but it turned out not to be useless, at least to me! Hopefully it will be of use to others.

I have a similar problem. Reversed power connector and my 360 showed 3 red lights. I have a key. Tried to re flash chip according to jeffrey1790 tutorial and re flashed it successfully. i also can erase it and etc... BUT DVD ROM DOESNT WORK. It doesn't open and x360 is showing e64 error. Could i fix it anyhow? Or i need to buy a new one?

Shin, if you can erase the drive just fine, simple reflash it with your old firmware and start everything from zero, or flash it with an hacked firmware and try to play.
