Flash Lite-on With Via8237 Chipset (dosflash)
« on: December 27, 2008, 05:08:00 PM »

If I may ask, exactly how you got the key?
I have the same chipset and everytime i choose the right I/O port in jungleflasher, ck3 tool, xtractor reader etc, vista freezes. I think it has something to do with the portIO32 drivers or something (I have them installed and deleted VIA's like some tutorial advised to do).

I have 8237 and got my liteon key using dvdkey32 using the default XP via drivers. I couldn't get it using the portIO (although they were installed when I used the XP VIA drivers....but I tried without XP drivers and no go). Jungleflasher and just about every other app freezes XP with this chipset.

i have via 8237 onboard and flashed 18 and counting lol..no probs at all..

use dvdkey32 to get my key using ck3lite then firmtool to create my ixtreme then drag that file and dosflash/dosflash.typ and erase to a usb prepared with iprep and erase and flash in pure dos..
i dont even use jungle flasher. i tried with the first 1 and got the lockup so didnt even bother again..the dvdkey32 in windows for the key..the ixtreme creation in windows and the rest erase/flash in pure dos

God damn! Still no progress.
If I have via drivers and portIO drivers installed vista hangs on the bootscreen. If I have only portIO drivers installed every key extractor program freezes when I select the right port. And if I have only via drivers, key extractor programs don't find my drive. Using Dosflash16 or 32 doesn't work either (in automode atapi device isn't recognized and manual fails also). Is there still a method I haven't tried?
When/if I manage to get the key, I will try to use the tutorial in first post. It looks quite straightforward...
Now I think I will install XP and kick Vista goodbye and see if it helps.

i use dvdkey32 for my keys with via chipset..
leave power off to the drive till you need to run dvdkey32
hook the drive up power it on..close drive half way and turn power off the drive and then power back on with tray half open..
use iprep to get your port number by using ? at end of serial controller the first 4 letter/numbers on deviceIO is your port..
then make sure dvdkey32 is in a folder on root of c: drive eg c:/dvdkey  then open a command prompt and go to dvdkey32 directory and run the command dvdkey32 XXXX  (XXXX being the port you got from iprep)

repaeat a few times and make sure ya get same key

as dvdkey32 and firmtool are dos you shouldnt get any freezes
if you get a valid key you will have all the files needed including the dummy.bin to get prepared to flash and create ixtreme firmware with firmtool

ok heres a quick guide for everything in dos..no windows apps at all for via users,,

1. hook up the lite-on drive to pc but NO power yet and boot into windows
2. run iprep and click the ? at the end of serial ata controller and write down the first 4 letters/numbers under deviceIO (eg DC00) also check device manager for your serial port number
3. create a folder called dvdkey on the root of c: drive and drop the contents of dvdkey32 into it
4. power on the lite-on drive and eject the drive..push the drive half way in. then turn the drive off and on again by removing power to it
5. start a command prompt and change directory to dvdkey folder (cd c:/dvdkey) prompt should change to c:/dvdkey
6. type dvdkey32 XXXX Y (XXXX being the port from iprep and Y being the serial port which if using serial will generaly be 1 or another number if using usb. (use device manager to get serial number)
7. insert probe and hit enter..you will get a valid serial number..repeat a few times and make sure the key is the same..
8. browse to the folder c:/dvdkey and you will have 4 new files an enquirery/key/identify/dummy bin files..copy and paste these into the firmtool folder
9. copy and paste the ix15-liteon.bin from the ixtreme 1.5 package into firmtool folder as well as the other files
10. again open a command prompt and change directory to firmtool.(the same as you did in step 5) if you have it on root it will be cd c:/firmtool that will change prompt to c:/firmtool
11 type the command firmtool dummy.bin ix15-liteon.bin  you should see success for serial and key info etc..
12 create a boot usb with iprep (load any firmware benq/samsung etc)
13. browse the files on removable drive and drop dosflash.exe / dosflash.typ / ix15-liteon.bin and l-o-eras.exe ( i rneamed that to eras.exe) onto the removable drive
14. boot into iprep with the drive powered off. once you got loaded and are prompted to press Y power up the liteon.
15 type eras.exe XXXX (again port that iprep gave you) keep repeating till you get 0072 it can take many tries..if it gets daft like 20 times power off the liteon and wait 10 seconds and power back on then repeat (a tip is the arrow keys in dos repeat last typed so ya dont have to keep typing eras.exe XXXX
16. once you get 0072 power off the drive and power on again. wait 10 seconds and just type dosflash
17. you will get some info and asking if you want to resend..select no.
18. make a note of the number that corrosponds with your port from iprep..even if it says there is no drive present..
19. dosflash will ask which number you want to chose..select the number that corrosponds with the iprepport. in my case 0
20 you will then get asked for either w / e / r  (write / erase / read) select w
21 you will then be asked for a firmware name to write.. type in the name of your hacked firmware in this case ix15-liteon.bin
22 you should see erasing then writing 4 banks..once complete and ya have a checksum plug the drive back into 360 and test

Nice tutorial  smile.gif

This should help a lot of people with freezing XP /Vista during Lite-on flashing.

*WARNING* be sure to update your firmtool to 1.3.1 if your using the dos method mentioned above..using firmtool 1.3 will result in the serial number not being copied accross even though firmtool reports it has..1.3.1 is a fix to that bug

thanks to you I can now get dosflash to see the drive.  I select the drive, and tell it to (W)rite and it asks for an firmware, which i point to, it says erasing....    and does nothing.

when i ran the l-o-eras app, it always gives me ff80 the first time and ff72 everytime after.  Unless I am mistaken, ff72 and 0072 (as you mention in the walkthrough) are the same.

Any ideas?

yes 0072 and ff72 are the same..its hard on here..you see little mistakes or addons but as soon as you close your browser and reopen it you lose the ability to edit lol..

anyway if you have trouble with the flashing process where it frezes on bank 1 try erasing again and then after erasing pull the molex from the conectivity kit and plug it back in..wait 5 secs or so and type dosflash and carry on with guide..
if it doesnt freeze and does nothing make sure the ix15-liteon.bin is named ix15.bin and make sure you typ the name correctly..
but the important bit is the power cycling..try pulling the molex rather than just turning it on and off..

@zevdogs
just type dosflash it will give you a list of drives with numbers to select from 0 - 9 etc..select no to resend info..it will then ask which number you want dosflash to represent..select the number that corrosponds with the lite-on (the port you used to erase or the 1 that says unknown drive or unknown type)..type the number then enter..in my case it was 0.
then either w / e / r select w which is write..it will then ask to type in firmware name to flash..type ix15.bin or whatever ya named your ixtreme firmware..press enter again and it should flash..
