Hitachi 79fl Flash
« on: December 10, 2008, 09:34:00 AM »

Hello all -

I'm in the process of trying to flash my 79fl and would like your advice please.

I have the xecuter ck and was going to flash it with the ixtreme1.4 fw.

I found this guide but was wondering if there was a better or easier way to do it?

Many thanks

Thanks - the reason I asked was due to the CK tool being able to do some of the things in that tutorial (like unlock the drive etc)

CK tool will not unlock the drive....  not a 79fl as you state you have.  they used to do 47s thru 49s I think it was... but 78s and 79s it will not unlock with the switch

You have to use the 79 unlock by podger to unlock the drive.

Hi Rozzer

i have just flashed my first 79fl with the ck3 pro, XP pro & Via VT6421

The only problem i had was the pc or the 360 drive locking up after the 79unlock X command (x being your drive letter)
I had trouble with playing the unlock 79.wav file in wmp, would not recognise it at all, it played ok in media player classic and VLC but with VLC i could not pause the track this seems to be where my problems stemmed from as i had to use media player classic.
I ended up uninstalling VLC and downloading a newer version, this solved all the problems i had and it was all done in 10 mins after spending hours last night trying different things  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
I have read things on people having issues with wmp since my problems so if this helps someone to solve thier issues  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
The "sendtotoys" application makes things easier too, i also put the "mode_b.exe" in my 79unlock folder makes it so easy getting the drive into mobe b

good luck mate

I've hit a problem already.

I'm using iprep to try and get the port deviceno - BUT the app (even after switching to IDE based) will not pick up any numbers remotely like 9000 etc.

standard ahci sata shows 0F80
standard dual channel FFA0
ATA channel 0 = nothing
ata channel 1 = nothing
ata channel 2 = nothing
ata channel 3 = nothing
IDE channel = 01F0
IDE channel = 0170

Am I doing something wrong?

BTW - I dont have scsi.

Just to add - I have tried mode_b 0F80 and then turned the ck3 on in "blue led" mode

It just keeps repeating ...........................................................

The drive does eject ok.

It doesn't mention the usb cable at all in the tut - I take it I don't need it?

MOBO is 939N68PV-GLAN - I'm using onboard sata

Rozza i am using via 6421 ide card as i dont have onboard sata on the pc i use for flashing.

You dont need to use the usb cable.
Blue light is correct.

I would try different sata connectors as there should be more than one to use.

try and google problem i am sure you will find something to try.

What are you doing with iprep?

You need to put the drive in mode b with slax,

boot into windows, play the unlock79 disc (audio file), run unlock79.exe and dump and flash with toolbox

Trying to get command base register for modeb by podger it seems (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

try modeb xxxx

for any of your ports returned, 0x170/0x1F0 are not liekley if you have DVDROMS hooked up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Hi - I'm following the tutorial that I linked to in my first post - is there a better way to do it?

Hi Oggy,

Are you saying I should disconnect the other sata connections on the motherboard before I run iprep to try and get the port number?

Thanks.

You could, but that would just remove 0x170 and 0x1f0 from the list really.... Just try

modeb xxxx

for all ports until you get the right one, no harm will be done sending the modeb command to a drive that doesnt recognise it.
