That was for the V79 Hitachi.  A modchip is no longer needed.  Search on this forum and you will find out how.

I don't need to know how, I'm just wondering if the chip wasn't a different piece of hardware?

No, all Hitachis have the same SST chip. The difference was in the coding of the fw, the 79s had some of the debug commands locked or removed or something like that. Podgers 79unlock cd just made it possible to flash using the software method negating the need for a modchip.

Hmm, it seems the more things change, the more they stay the same.  Thanks for the Hitachi primer.

Can anyone confirm that it is in fact iXtreme 1.5? Does it work with all drives? I want to make sure before I upgrade my Hitachi v79FK.

ok guys not sure if i ruined the drive or what but it does not appear to be powering on now. will not eject and no laser activity when powered on with my xtractor 360. note that i had my tx/rx still connected via solder when trying to erase/flash. any ideas would be great and would like to know if tx/rx should be disconnected before erasing/flashing
