decaping IC's?! very easy.. if what i heard about the chip ( simple wires connecting the two dies) is correct then a laser decapsulation could be less destructive and wouldn't be needed a $300 service for that, and then 2 ou 3 probes would be needed if what i heard aboud the interface between the controller and the memory (SPI) is correct..

Decapping isn't end of the story. you need to take pictures of the decapped chip under a microscope... then you need to READ the image... $300 is only for the image I believe.

So just to confirm if all I currently have is a Via 6421 sata card and cable what else will I need to perform this flash on the Lite On?

you dont see nothing in a memory chip under a microscopy, even under a electronic microscopy. it has to be read an electricaly.. you cant read the memory externally because you dont have direct access to memory die only the controller can access it and controller dont has a command / or at least a known command to read the entiry memory.. decaping the package allow them to access memory directly. allowing then to read it normaly.. the problem is who has a laser capable of decaping a tsop package? well i use one everyday!

I have a RS232 to TTL converter, can't you extract the keys w/o using a connectivity kit? I'm certain I read that somewhere. I havn't used mine yet, havn't had the need to, just wanted to be prepared. Now I'm ready once I find some instructions on how to do it. Anybody got a link to some good directions to using the converter w/ the connectivity kit.
