If you dont have com take pro version because you can use USB instead RS-232

ROM doesn't really work for optical drives, because they do occasionally need to be updated. In this situation ROM is hard too because on first boot, when the xbox generates it's unique optical drive key, it needs to write it to the optical drive. If the memory on the drive was read only, this wouldn't work.

well photos can be taken to chip but.. it worth nothing.. but looks good! as all you will see is some traces... nothing else.. even with electronic microscopy..  they surely read-off the code as you normally read a memory, give it some power and read the thing lol, as the chip is a normal memory.. just in the same package as the controller..

Your motherboard probably has serial headers on it, look in the manual, if you steal some pins off of a usb motherboard-header connector you can make your own serial port.

Hey guys I have my 360 with a benq spoofed as a hitachi.0078.. Can someone point me to a tutorial on how to update the firmware? I cant find a recent one, they are all pretty old. Do I just rerun iprep and let it overwrite whatever is on the flash chip?

Anyone know if we should be leaving the jumpers on the two points on the lite-on boards? (after we get our keys).  Or do we take those off?

Also, anyone know what SATA controllers will be compatible?  Will a Sata controller that's compatible with the key reading process, be also compatible with the flashing process?

Ok. Can someone answer this?  : I soldered/bridged my lite-on drive and extracted the key. I then patched iExtreme v1.4 with the info in order to spoof a Hitachi v78 thus making it read as a Lite-on drive.

Everything is working great with my backups and I have not been banned from XBL. Is there a possibility I could be banned?

If that is the case, i'll unplug my box from Live until 12/24/2008 in order to upgrade.
