i had a friend that flashed my 360 but i had the red rings and sent it back for repair.  They sent me back this lite on drive and my friend moved.  I am going to attempt to flash this on my own with no experience what so ever when the firmware is released.  My question is I found a step by step book at http://www.360mods.n...al/Textbook.pdf.  So do i follow the same step in this book but use the new lite on iXtreme firmware?  Or is there an easier way in simpler terms?  thanks in advance.

That tutorial wont do you much good for the Liteon. You need to take a close look at the Liteon threads instead of just skipping all the work.

No.  There has never been anything posted to make one believe that it actually exists.  There have been a thread or two about it but the poster always fails to post pictures when requested.

As Oggy previously stated, he's read the key off of a DG-16D2S that was manufactured in October.

I can 2nd the DG-16d2s being read of key like its previous lite-on version.. read the key on one and swapped for samsung ms 28 last night.. customer is returning after christmas for a proper lite-on modding.. I'll have pics then .

The DG-16d2s is the drive we all have been dealing with for months now and is the drive this firmware hack is coming out for. What we was talking about is the so called DG-18D2S that people have been claiming is making its rounds.

If this new drive can have its drive key read the same way as the original Liteon that does not mean that the new hacked firmware will work on it.

However as stated I would love to see proof of this new drive.

So there was supposed to be some private testing of the 1.5 firmware on the Lite-On drives this last weekend.  Anyone hear about it or is everyone involved keeping the results private also?

sleeping.gif What do you honestly think..... Common this liteon crap is blowing up everywere more than any drive ever which sucks when stuff gets blow up in masses because then theres a fix and your back were you started.

Until I see some pictures of the "DG-18D2S" drive, as far as I'm concerned it doesn't exist and it was just a typo and they actually meant DG-16D2S. If this drive DOES exist, it'll be the first time a manufacturer makes 2 different drives for the 360. In the past there have always been similar drives but some had different firmware versions.. (ie MS25 and MS28). In this case, the drive itself is a different model, but same brand (Lite-On).

What are you talking about?  Have you forgotten Hitachi?

Hitachi hardware is all the same throughout, its the fw versions that differ.

Unless you consider adding epoxy to the tsop. But essentially correct. Only firmware changes.

I fail to see how that is any different than a (supposedly) new Lite-On drive.  Why assume it's not the same drive with newer firmware?

The Hitachi Models were all the same - Hitachi GDR-3120, the v46 v47 etc was just the firmware version
The Liteon model is DG-16D2S has fw version 74850C on it.

The original statement remains true, no manufacturer has made more than 1 different hardware revision for the DVD drive for the xbox360. It remains to be seen regarding the liteon whether a new hardware or firmware version will be released, there are no pics to prove it (not yet anyway).

Sometimes a manufacturer uses the same model name but the hardware changes slightly during revisions, no?  I have never owned a Hitachi, but I thought the last Hitachi was not flashable without a modchip.  I think I had read where someone with the means can replace the TSOP with a flashable chip so that a modchip isn't required.

That was for the V79 Hitachi.  A modchip is no longer needed.  Search on this forum and you will find out how.

even if c4 realeases a new firmware it wont work on lite on because its not possible to write to flash lite-ons' Rom, so the only way its changing it with another drive witch can be flashed like samsung etc.

I can assure you its possible, not just that its been done. The computer shop you speak off clearly has out of date info and have not kept up on the news. After much research it was discovered the controller of the liteon could only not be read. It can be erased and it can be written to. Dosflash does that now its no secret.

Team Jungle stripped the liteon controller in acid and read it optically, and develloped Ix 1.5 from that. So in essence you extract your key and spoof string as normal, inject it into ix 1.5, and flash it back to the liteon.

PS its getting released in the next 12 hours so you will see soon enough
