Yeah, I believe I have a defective unit as well. Guess I can try getting a replacement, but I don't feel like waiting another 2 weeks and dealing with their crappy customer service. I didn't even get a tracking number with my first kit and they basically said, "There's nothing we can do once we ship it. Thanks."

Like what the heck?

I live in canada, so I know how much Canadapost charges for a tracking number.  all greedy canada post's fault.  I also believe what they have said is true, after you handover the package to canada post, or any courier, there is really nothing you can do...

But, there customer service is good, I can contacted them before and got a response within 24 hours.

I received an email from diygadget.com a couple days ago, they have a 15% off coupon available, not sure when it expires but you can try it during checkout step.  The coupon code is

DIYGADGET

So the kit is $30.59 shipped, which is $5.4 off!  IMHO, it's a very good deal for a solderless solution for your liteon.

I'd see why not.  If you live in GTA, their overnight service is $25 if you drop off the whole xbox 360, or $15 if you drop off the DVD drive.... I'd see it is a very good price...

Quick question here to understand this:

I'm slightly confused here.  I've done quite a few Benq's, Samsungs and Hitachi's successfully, however, now is my first approach to the LiteON.

Where I'm confused is, is the drivekey unique to each specific drive?  If so, does the BIOS on the board of the xBox see the the drivekey and if there's a difference it will not work?

Why I'm asking is, how come I cannot just swap out the LiteON drive and use my brand new Benq?  When I did that, it just says Play DVD.  Is this because the drivekey has to match both the drive and the BIOS onboard?

Thanks!

Yes, the key is unique to each drive.  If the key doesn't match, it wont work.  Yes to your second question, that is why you need the key.

Purchased this kit a month ago, and when it arrived the probe seperated from the wire while trying to extract the key and kept on giving off bad keys for 3 hours.  then it finally broke off the wire.  So I soldered the wire to a thumbtack taped it down while it was in the hole and boom key is perfect every time first try.  I believe they should modify there probe its to hard to hold or make it pointer and thinner on the end so itll enter the hole and stay there and allow more accurate key reads.

Hey guys maybe u can help me.

I received mine today and for a couple hours now have been trying to get it to work. I followed both the tutorial diygadget links to and this tutorial. I order this set IPB Image

Now everything installs fine but i keep getting the bc-0 ERROR when trying to get the key from the drive. I've done the test using hyper terminal and it does not work. The usb adapter comes in as com3 and yet it wont communicate. I don't have a serial port on my motherboard (asus p5ql-e) can someone please help?!
