So I guess that means we'll still have to get the key by using a serial adapter, etc, but then flashing can still be done via SATA alone, since supposedly the f/w chip is flashable, but "not" readable...or so someone said a while back.

I think, but don't know for sure, that what they meant by the hardware part is the "soldering two connections" part, not the retrieval of the keys using the serial connection. So hopefully we won't to construct that cable anymore.

as far as i know, that is true at the current time. the chip can be erased and flashed via sata, but the current key retrieval methods are still needed.

Great news that it is finally hacked and a firmware will be out soon.

A few things concern me about the new v1.5 iXtreme though.

I noticed c4eva stated that it will be single 12x speed only? Is this because it's detectable? or simply because of the ability to install on HDD?

If the later, then what about the Acrade owners without a HDD? If it is a security issue then it's ok.

Will there be any extra features for BenQ drives included such as improved reading? I guess it doesn't matter since there is now installs.

Is the Lite-On drive any better at reading backups when compared to the BenQ? I know they are close to the same drive with just a different chipset but maybe c4eva tweaked the firmware better than he did for the BenQ.

Just got my xbox back from repair, sure enough got a liteon.  Just out of curiousity, I tried the dosflash32 that is for Benq's, and it was able to initially detect it (ie the first window popped up about turning it off and back on), but after power cycling it, it was never found.

I hope this comes out soon, would be nice to avoid buying another dvd drive smile.gif

OT but, just wondering, are they replacing drives with liteon as a matter of course or did the xbox go away with a drive fault? I'm in the same situation, just got my first xbox and it of course has a liteon I was just about to order a replacement but looks like I'll wait now.

I think they replace every console that goes in for repair with a Liteon drive even if there is nothing wrong with the drive.

Damn, definitely excited about this. I pulled the BenQ from my old, banned 360 and swapped it into my new one, so I currently have a second 360 with no DVD drive. Looks like I'll be swapping the BenQ back into the old one/putting the Lite-On in the old one.

Paraphrasing c4eva from the chat - 12x "limitation" is due to HDD installation, which makes 8x and 5x builds obsolete (and would probably save some coding time as well).

i hope that c4eva figure out new ways to get the key from the drive, now they have done the fw and have time now.

What about people with no HDD at all and just have the memory unit? 8x was a great speed as it had the balance of speed and quietness. 12x is great for installs i agree.

Great work by the team.

It would make an even better eid present!!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  (eids on monday the 8th for most people)

eid mubarak to you already bro.
instead of the sheep it wil be the xbox360 getting slaughtered lol

as far as i know. the software part they are working now on is probably the part for flashing and retrieving keys. what i heard at the channel was that when it's fully done the process will be the same as with other drives. meaning key extraction through software and no soldering or other parts required.

Nice to know that 1.5 ixtreme will be soon out.
All thanks to c4eva and his team, great job!

Have only one question, should I update to new NXE do the flashing or other way around?

I do not want to get banned.

Any comments?

Thx
