Help Swapping Dvd Drives
« on: February 03, 2020, 01:26:00 AM »

Alright, I have a "Hitachi-LG(GDR-3120L)" drive that is having some problems, and won't read games anymore, so I want to swap it out.

I've got a Toshiba-Samsung drive that is working that I want to replace it with, F/W is ms28.

How would I go about doing this? I have the VIA SATA card that I need, and the XBox 360 and PC are in 'connecting' distance via SATA.

Are you running original or iXtreme firmware?  In either case, you need to extract the key from the Hitachi firmware and insert it into MS28 spoofed firmware.  You can do this with Maximus's Firmware Toolbox (FWTB).  Then you flash the MS28 with the new spoofed firmware with the proper key.

i'm running original firmware in both....

as far as extracting the key, i have NO idea how to do that, or even where to start, mind pointing me in the direction? And I messed with the 360 Firmware Toolbox a bit and from what I see here's my assumption towards putting the key into the new drive when I get it:

I use iPrep to do the first few steps, up until the point where I would actually FLASH the firmware, before flashing the firmware i open the firmware file "SAM-CFW.BIN" with 360 Firmware Toolbox, and in the "Key" box I will paste the key that I somehow get from my old drive and hit "Replace Key"

that's about as far as i've figured out...lol.

Edit1: Upon doing some more research, it seems that in order to get the key from the drive, I have to burn a LiveCD version of SLAX, and set the drive to ModeB, and use the 360 firmware tool to read the key from the firmware right off of the drive in windows, correct?

If im missing anything, please let me know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

First concentrate on the Hitachi. What version is it?

You need to get into modeB. Use either Slax 2.1 or Podger's modeB from windows application. Providing it's not a 79, use FWToolbox to dump the FW. You now have the Key.

For the sammy, if you've already dumped the FW using Iprep, open it in FWtoolbox (OFW for non-hacked, CFW for hacked version). Replace the key with the hitachi key. Then spoof it to match the hitachi version. Then save it back to your Iprep folder overwriting SAM-CFW. Then flash with Iprep.
