Lite-on Solder Points And Spear
« on: November 24, 2008, 11:11:00 AM »

I have just bought a new 360 after my old one died and it has a lite-on drive.

After looking through the forum and guides it seems you are required to solder 2 points on the back of the drive board.

I was just wondering why as far as i can tell when using the spear addon with the maximus xtractor it only seems to bridge one of the points rather that the 2 needed for ck3 addon.

Do both points need to be soldered or can you get away with just doing 1.

There is not a cats hell chance of me soldering both points, was thinking of just bridging one of the points with a pin or a wire.  Would that work?  Can you not bridge the points using a pencil.  Ive done that before on motherboards.

Any help would be appreciated

Yes, you can get away with just one. Not sure why the tutorals haven't been updated with this.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Do you think it would be possible to bridge this point using just a graphite pencil.

The other way i was gonna try is using a pin bent into the hole and touch the solder point.

I can't solder for 5hit and would likely damage the board.

I'm surprised no one has created a small clip to bridge this point.  The only thing available at present is  the spear addon - which for what it does is a rip off.

You can do it without soldering.

If you splice into the dvd cable using this manual as reference
http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/tutorial/Xbox_360-HandC-V1_4.pdf

On a ttl/rs-232 adapter
Like this one http://alldav.com/index.php?main_page=prod...402d2b90b3555ac

pin 6 to the v-in on the adapter
7, 9, 11 or 5 for ground

The spear is little more than a suped up paperclip with a wire attached to it.
Poke a paperclip in the hole and hook that to the tx on the adapter

It's kind of a hacked up way of doing it, but it should work.

Thanks for your help

Ive already got a CK3 pro adapter.

Will just use a paperclip to bridge the point.

I never said soldering was that hard. I find it reasonably easy, but then again... I interned for a small electronics engineering company.

I would say it's more, you have to have the iron, the solder and a steady hand.

I'm still before my "first time" with Lite-On drive   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)  and I'd like to ask you guys some questions:

What if I don't have any connectivity kit? Can I still avoid soldering like you discussed here? Can I do it connecting only  r707 and leaving the other?
I'll be doing it by this guide:
http://beta.ivancover.com/wiki/index.php/X...D2S_Extract_Key

Also I've seen this topic http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=666496
and it all makes me wonder - are those no-solder options only available for connectivity users? Or just by a coincidence, no one updated any tutorial that includes a method for "no-CK" people ?
I'll be using a PCI card with VIA VT6421A which helped me flash  Benq and Sammy before.

P.S.  I've bought a max3232 thingy but I've received one build not on Maxim 3232 but on Sipex SP3232ECP - I've made some research and it seems like a "max3232" imitation and schematics match. Just to be sure I decided to ask: Will it work? I mean - it's just a TTL converter, right? as long as I connect Rx, Tx etc. properly - I should be able to read the data Lite-On holds ?

I just use a very small flat head screw driver to press down on the points and bridge them. It's very simple and it much better than wasting money on that Spear add-on rip off thing.

If I was able to get the inquiry.bin and the identify.bin files, but got an invalid key that comes out as a bunch of Cs, does that mean there's a problem with how I bridged R707?

I'm trying the screwdriver trick to bridge the two points since I don't have any of the things required to solder it.  Am I not putting enough pressure on the screwdriver to connect the two points?

Could there be a problem with the SATA or COM ports?  Or is this problem solely related to bridging the two points?

Albut35 - - the simple solutions are the best.

Don't know why i didn't just think of that.

Will give it a whirl at the weekend.

Thanks for your help

So if you use the screwdriver trick, you dont need to solder a wire (dont know which one) to the screwdriver??
Just bridging (assume thats connecting) the 2 solderpoints at r707 via a screwdriver??

Ive tried most of the ways available when dumping my liteons, and screwdriver irsnt the easiest.

Pin in the hole joined by wire or something to Tx seems a lot easier.
