I am not a newbie have modded many 360's but my first time trying to restore and older hitachi and it is not going well.


I am trying to restore my hitachi 47 dj drive as my samsung 360 went down for now. I am having a lot of issues with this and wondering if someone with experience with this can tell me what to do next.


My samsung got the 3 rrod because I put some newer heatshrinks on but put the one on the cpu sideways which caused it to overheat and not have 3 rrod and can't bring it back without heat gun which I haven't acquired yet. So I got my hitachi back up system out and went to restore the drive using commadores 1.4 extreme firm ware pack. I got an error when doing it telling me to check 4 things, programs running in back ground, run in safe mode etc.... I tried this several times and got the same error just trying to restore the drive. Now when I hook it up it wont play games but will still go in mode B and plays movies etc.... I have the drive key can I still restore this drive? Otherwise I will spoof my samsung to this hitachi motherboard.

open a command prompt in windows and type restore e.  Which should be on the root of your c drive if you use dosflash to mod Hitachi's

-DO NOT use dosflash on hitachi.

-Have you ever flashed that Hitachi with this SATA port?  it seems your Hitachi is not seen very well. (I have the same, I must use my onboard ICH5 port as my car VIa6421 sata port do not work on the Hitachi.

-Is it in Mode B (two press to open/close)

-command to restore is "Restore" the letter is requested after in the FW1.4 package

It is in mode B, two presses to eject etc..., using xecrueter connectivity kit, using slax method as well, seen in windows can play movie from hitachi drive. I have iXtreme1.4_Hitachi_C4EVA folder in root C drive. I open it up by either double clicking or using powertoys command prompt and type in Restore and Drive letter. My issue is I keep getting an error. The first time I tried it I had a burnt 360 game in the drive then switched to putting a movie in the drive as it said to try. It keeps giving me and error hitachi is not restoring. Says one of these for things is wrong and it list them. It says windows may not be compatibile run in safe mode, close all background programs, put dvd movie in drive when booting into mode B, the final thing is says is your drive may not be a working drive. This drive worked perfectly fine before I started this adventure. I am trying to restore it because I need to update to 1.4 ixtreme firmware. I made sure all programs were closed, put movie in clearly in mode B, havent tried it in safe mode yet. Now when I hook it up to my 360 and put original disk in I get and error saying to put in original 360 disc. Will play movies, powers on still etc.. and can still get in mode B is this drive dead? Is the only way to save it to remove the tsop chip use and external programer to program it and solder it back on. I have another hitachi drive I can use same model, however I don't want to mess up any other drives. I have flashed many 360's and this is the first time I have had flash not go successful that was working before I got it. I also have a samsung that I could spoof and throw in this but I would rather not waste a drive if I can recover this one.

Never mind by booting up in mode B with movie in drive, then removing before I flashed it and making sure all programs were closed I was able to restore the drive and flash it successfully, However after trying some of my games I rather have a samsung in here which I have an extra one because I have a lot more disc read issues with the hitachi drive. I may be back on here to ask more about spoofing from sammy to hitachi but have done this once before but did run into the some problems last time and has been a while

I put a samsung in this and it is running good now.
