Lite-on Laser Install Into Benq
« on: October 27, 2008, 01:14:00 PM »

Does the laser from a Lite-on drive work ok in a Benq-Vad6038?

I know they look simalar, just wondered if anyone has tried it?

My Benq sounds like death, I thought these drives were meant to be quiet, especially more concerned after flashing my freinds with hitachi and its abut 200% quieter than mine! ohmy.gif

Yes I think they will work. I have matched the two up and they look identical.

why dont you look at the laser model # on each laser, then you can confirm they are the same?

I already did hence why I said "i know they look the simalar" I just didn't know if there was any electrical differences and possibly blow something. I also cannot see any model numbers on it.

Well, I just fitted it.

It still works lol, it's a bit quieter but not as quiet as I expected. Oh well, nevermind.

Hopefully the lasers are a little different.

With your Lite-on laser in the BenQ, is there any improvement on the texture issues when playing backups of GTA IV and Midnight Club Los Angeles?

It is good to know that if the liteon never gets fully hacked that the box full of liteon drives I have can at least be used for replacement lasers for BenQ's.

Well, the only difference I noticed in the laser was the pot was set to about 6.30 ohms ( i think thats the correct term) uhh.gif lol

Anyway, I dropped it down to about 3.30 which was the same as the laser I removed.

Can anyone else check their pot readings for Lasers that came out of lite-ons? it could show some differences between the drives or something.

I haven't got a copy of GTA ATM, I gave it to the person who I recently flashed their xbox so i'm using my original, TBH I never seemed to have any issues with it anyway.

I also haven't got MCLA so can't comment on that one.

I will however say that I always have had a DRE that affects only GTA, backup or original. I still have it even after fitting the Lite-on laser.
