Yes, that can be recovered.

You need to replace R709 and R710. And generally clean up that area.

I'm guessing your soldering skills aren't up to it (no offence, but looking at that pic...) so it may be wise to get someone else to do it.

What I would do is:

1. Follow the traces back to the connector solder points. Its the four on the left (as we look at you photo.) Check these for shorts. If there are no shorts, go to step 2. If there are any shorts, remove the black burnt bits and any excess solder, until uou have no shorts.

2. Clean up the 4 vias below R707/708/709/710. Use a fibreglass pencil to remove the green coating until you see nice clean copper.

3. Solder resistors to the vias below R709 and R710 and  connect them to the connect points the traces used to run to. (Not sure the value of the resistors, but I can find out).

4. Solder wires to the vias below R707 and R708. Connect these wire to your RS232 converter. These are the RX and TX lines.

5. If your soldering skills are "shit", find someone else to do it.

AcoholX, I'd love to mate, but these skills in Singapore are non-existent.  I'd be happy to send my drive to someone from this forum, with some cash for their help!

What I think you really need is another old lite-on drive, pull the resistors out of that then solder them back on I could probally do it for you but im in australia not really your best option there are people on here willing to donate thier old lite-on drives for nothing as theres pleanty around at the moment, once you've sucessfully key extracted then thats all you need then you can chuck that drive.

The cleaned-up board isn't too bad really. Just needs the two resistors replacing and it should be good to go.

But better to learn on YOUR 360 than somebody elses!

Glad it's all sorted.

Cheers

I have a similar problem! sad.gif.

Mine isn't as burnt as mrfr0sty's, but some  of the trace of r710 is gone. And it is extremly small, so, can i put a bridge between the R710 zone and the connector solder point?

If i have to do again the dissapered trace, which tool do i have to use?.

When i tried to sold this stuff i used a 40w solder is it too big for this?

Thx for all
