Basically to sum everything up I have tried some fixes for the unreadable discs on youtube for the Hitachi drives and none of them seem to work. I cleaned the motor spindle and my magnet was still in place, but neither seemed to help much. The drive does read discs, but not all of them and not all of the time.
I figure I don't want to mess with this drive anymore trying to fix it so I will just buy a new one on ebay. I found a video on youtube claiming that I can buy any Hitachi drive on ebay and just take my old motherboard in the drive out and put it in the new one. I know I know it has been asked a millions times. I just need a clear answer before I continue. It is not like I haven't been searching for info for several hours already.
Can you confirm that I can in fact take the board out of my FW ver 46 and put it in say a 78 and it will work, no flashing/spoofing? I mainly just need to know this because I don't plan on flashing the drive to do back up games. I just want a good working drive again that I don't have to worry about saying unreadable disc for awhile.
The next thing I was curious about is do you think that the other drives that came in the 360 such as the samsung and benq are better more reliable drives for everyday use? If so which ones do you guys think are the best drives? I know I heard some of the newer ones are much quieter than this loud Hitachi is. I may be willing to try flashing/spoofing for the first time if you think the newer drives are a lot better. I just need to know which guide at to look at since there are so damn many to look at when going to do this kind of thing.
THANKS ALL IN ADVANCE, MUCH APPRECIATED (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) This post has been edited by koola514: Oct 13 2008, 06:48 AM
