Benq Dvd: Flash Tutorial For Beginners?
« on: September 29, 2008, 07:34:00 PM »

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the firmware flash concept. After going through tons of webpages and threads, I feel that I have a good idea of how to flash and not brick my BenQ drive. Basically, I'm following the Noob Tutorial but replacing the old listed firmware and dosflash with the newer versions.

Software:
1. DosFlash 16 or 32
2. iXtreme 1.41
3. +/- BenQ Unlock

Steps:
1. Have a compatible chipset SATA card
2. Open up your X360
3. Plug your DVD drive SATA into your computer.
4. Setup your computer to be ready to boot from floppy or USB and turn it off.
5. Only have the SATA port connected to your DVD drive plugged in.
6. Use a USB/floppy boot disk with DosFlash on it to start your computer.
7. Use DosFlash to grab the original firmware off the DVD drive.
8. Computer off, and boot it up normally.
9. Create the hacked firmware with iXtreme
10. Put the hacked firmware onto the USB drive.
11. Boot the computer again with only the DVD drive connected.
12. Run Dosflash and erase the drive.
13. Boot the computer again.
14. Write the firmware.

Am I missing any software part to this? (ex: mktflash, whatever)
Where does the BenQ Unlock fit into this?
What is the difference between DosFlash 16 or 32? Which one would I use?
Would I want to use ixDef_1.41_rev 2?
I got all the software from X-bins.

Use iprep 6.2 then.
Think of iprep as a, (and I use the term loosely), front end for mtk flash and dosflash.

When you dump or flash firmware for a Benq using iPrep, iPrep executes a batch file that, for the most part, runs dosflash.

When you dump or flash a Samsung using iPrep, the batch file calls mtkflash.

I have flashed approx a dozen BenQs. and the the steps listed in Textbooks tutorial worked every time.
