i flashed my cousins 360. he had a Hitachi 079. i used the 79 unlock method then flashed it using toolbox 4.8. now i want to know how to get it back to the original firmware using toolbox.

So lets continue for a 78/79 restore:

 - Put your Hitachi drive in ModeB with SLAX or CrossWire Trick (Hitachi 78
and above only support SLAX Method) or Power on with tray open

 - Make sure you attach the Drive to the PC with a Native Sata port because
some PCI Sata cards are not supported or even some USB-SATA adapters are
not working well at this moment. Does not harm to try

 - Make sure your drive is visible and has a letter asigned on Windows

 - Insert a DVD Movie or an XBOX/XBOX 360 game on the Hitachi DVD drive, it
does not matter wich, originals works better.

 - Launch Fw Toolbox and open the original file for the drive, this is important
because of the variations of the 78+ firmwares.

 - MAKE SURE THE DETAILS SHOWS AN FULLY ORIGINAL FILE, if labels as "Spoofed"
or "XTREME" appear on the details then IS NOT AN ORIGINAL FILE.

 - Go to "Tools->Direct Drive Flash->Differential Flash RESTORE"

 - Make sure the Hitachi drive u want to flash is selected, now press the button
"Read Drive and Detect Differences", after a few seconds the sectors list
below the button should be populated.

 - Important If you are ASKED about if you want to keep the drives already on the
   drive CHOOSE YES.

 - Press the "Start Flashing" button and after a few seconds the thing is done
   your drive is now restored.

How To I Flash My Hitachi 079 Drive Back To Its Original Firmware?

I realise this is an old thread but I'm having a problem restoring a Hitachi 079 drive and thought someone may be able to help.  I had i-Xtreme 1.4 firmware working fine and want to change to either i-Xtreme 1.51 or an older non-stealth firmware (I have a maximus 79 pass key fitted).

Using 360 FW Toolbox 4.8 I put the the drive into Mode B (powered on the box, opened the tray, pulled the power plug, powered back on with tray open etc). The pass key LED flashes and the drive is detected and visible under windows (XP Pro on ICH9R chipset in SATA IDE mode).  I then followed the instructions in this post (taken from the tutorial included with 360 FW Toolbox).  When I get to the point where it says "Read Drive and Detect Differences" it brings up the sector list etc but when I click  the 'Start Flashing' button it brings up and error saying somthing like 'cannot verify sector 0xxxx would you like to retry' if you click yes it will repeat the same message, if you click no the same message will appear about 10-15 times with different block numbers.

I tested the drive and it will read original discs but not backups, I've tried re-flashing the i-Xtreme 1.4 bin file that I had successfully used the first time around and it gives the same 'cannot verify' error messages and the drives will still only read original discs.  I also tried using Jungle Flasher to restore the original firmware with no success.  Any ideas?
