Which Read Speed Firmware To Use?
« on: September 23, 2008, 01:38:00 PM »

which is the best to choose? i chose the 2x, and my xbox 360 is much quieter ( almost as quiet when reading a disk as when not reading) but it takes ages to load anything.

also if you use any speed other than the 12x online will the instantly be able to detect it?

Ok i think it really depends on what drive you have and what you call noise i have my benq on 12x and its maybe a small bit louder than it was stock but it works fine. and as far as backups being detected when you make a copy using a keron drive or anything just make sure your media passes the stealth checks and you also have the correct ss.

Any time you play a backup online you run the risk of being banned simply put if your really that worried about it dont play them online or on any account that accesses live.

well as mafiafan said it depends on the drive i use a samsung at 8x and backups work perfect pretty fast and its quiet but speed is up to preference personally i would go for 8 or 12 anything lower than 8x would probly be too slow for loading

I tested all speeds pretty extensively back in the day and I've been using 5x for ages.  I can't hear any disc activity and I've never had any issues with games like GTA4 or slow loading.  When unmodded friends come over to play, nobody ever notices it being slow, but they all notice how quiet the drive is.  It's actually ended up making a couple of them want to mod their own systems just to quiet the drive.  In my testing, 2x was much slower, and 5x was just as quiet.

I have a samsung drive, for some reason this drive makes all kinds of odd noises, it sounds like its about to die lol.  I wonder what could cause that?  It's like a BRRRRRAAAAARRRWW, then clunks and spins down. It can't be the laser because its brand new. Also, when I open the drive without a disc inside it, then close the drive it almost sounds as if its trying to read something, eventhough a disc isnt it it.  Do all sammys do that? Am I going crazy? lol.  Would the firmware speed affect this? I think my drive may have been flashed at 12x, so I was thinking of flashing it down to 8x, then calibrating the laser as well.  Let me know guys, I'm used to haitachi behavior, but not used to sammy behavior yet.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Also, my sammy is lite-on spoofed
