Flash Hitachi V79 With Onboard Ich6r
« on: February 03, 2020, 05:24:00 PM »

I have HP xw4200 workstation with ICH6R SATA controller.

I have one SATA hard drive connect to SATA port 0. I have connected Hitachi v79 to SATA port 1 and power it with Xbox 360.

Then I start both PC and xbox tried to put this drive into Mode B.

The BIOS on PC detects the Hitachi v79 drive and asked me do I want to save the changes. I answer Yes then everything freeze at BIOS section. I can not even get SLAX CD boot from internal PC DVD rom. It just stop at BIOS.

Anyone have any ideas?

Gee I can't even start putting this v79 beast into Mode B yet.

HAven't understood... YOu means that if you start pc with xbob on it doesn't permit to go on? Anyway, don't use slax, use dosflash (you could use it under windows) to see your SATA port, the create an MSDOS boot disk that also include podger (see other posts) file and go on with that procedure  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pop.gif)

first disconnect the drive from pc..then enter bios...set bios to audo detect devices..then hit f10 then Y to save changes..Try  reconnecting 79 at this point and see what happens.

I connect my PC SATA port 1 to XBOX 360 DVD. XBOX 360 DVD is powered by XBOX 360. SATA port 0 is connected to SATA hard drive.

With above setting the PC just freezed at BIOS. I can not even boot up SLAX CD as the PC freezed at BIOS.

I will try podger's set mode B in Windows. But I don't have floppy drive in my PC. Any suggestions?

If I managed to put this beast into ModeB. Do you guys think FW Toolbox will work?

Worry that I might brick my drive.

My BIOS did see the Hitachi 79 drive from my XBOX 360 but after I press SAVE. The screen just stuck at BIOS and never go to boot up SLAX CD.

Same here on msi via 8237 chipset..Had 2 identical 79s to do the other night, first booted no probs saw in bios..loaded slax, mode b etc etc...all done in 10 mins...Next drive which was an identical model/month etc would not detect on bootup and just hung detecting devices. Gave up after 4 hours and went and done first go on m8 intel chipset. Dont make sense really.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
