While using  Maximus Firmware Toolbox 4.0 I used slax and it recognizes my 360 right away and puts it in mode b. i then restart pc and take cd out.   Go into windows vista, put in a game or movie (tried both) the autorun thing comes out, so i exit that out, then go into  Maximus Firmware Toolbox 4.0 and select the tools and select Direct Drive Dump.   It then shows the drive, and I click 'RAW dump firmware as' and it sits there for about 20 seconds then says FAILED TO READ DRIVE.

Its a GDR3120L drive and everything. I'm obviously hooked up good if it goes into mode b easily, and it autoruns the movie i put in, in vista.    I'm just having problems with Maximus Firmware tool.  

Anyone know of this error and howto fix it?

why not just use the updated toolbox 4.8 i believe it is also i thought flashing drives was a bit tricky with vista idk because i flashed my drive with xp

Hmm the drive says GDR3120L  right on it.   It says rom 0079 that must mean its a 79. is there something different about flashing this drive?

Your firmware toolbox is out of date. Get the latest version 4.8.

I figured out why it never worked. I have the 79 drive so i needed to use 79 UNLOCKER.   It worked perfect. No errors!!!    Thing is, how can i test out if my drive is flashed properly before my samsung drive gets here from ebay.   Also, how do i know what version my console has? How can i update it?  Thanks.

Not quite sure why you are buying a Samsung drive....you do know you only need to replace the drive if its a lite-on don't you ? or are you meaning you are awaiting a Samsung PC Kreon drive ?

If you don't have any backups yet, you can only really test that it hasnt got a bad flash, and that key is valid, and you do this by simply playing an original game.
