It's probabaly CC00 or CC0F. Try iPrep again and show us what it says after you press the question mark (and after you choose the right decide).

nitrag:
Mode-B.exe cc00

is correct....
did you get  BSOD or just a windows debug message....
Debug message could mean 2 things
1. that io.dll isn't available
2. you don't have admin rights..

if it's BSOD, I'm still trying to figure out....
what chip is on the card 6421 A or L

iPrep tells me CC00C400 which I think I tried but it didn't work. I never got a BSOD. I only got a message saying the program crashed and if I wanted to report it to M$. (i have via 6241)

anywho, I just used slax to get it in mode-b.

If I use this mode_b.exe command to get my Hitachi v79 drive into Mode-B.

Do I need to restart my Windows ?

Do I need to open and eject my drive a few times before I go to next step Unlock 79?

test123123:
the idea of the new version... is.. that it sends the mode-b command continuously till the drive acknowledges... so if you start the exe with the drive powered off, it starts to send... THEN power on the drive, the mode-b command should be the first command the drive receives, so it should be in mode-b before windows starts to plug and play....

for me it behaves pretty much the same as powering on a modded drive with the tray open....

if it works for you it can save a bit of time... rather than booting slax and then xp again... and it works on cross-spoofed drives

But what I want to find out is. If I am successful used this tool on my Hitachi v79.

Do I need to open and eject my v79 DVD a few times? then I go to unlock 79 next ?

What is the proper next step after I successful putting my v79 dvd drive into Mode-B?

Whenever I try either the 32 bit version of this or DVDkey32, windows says it wasn't able to run the program properly and shuts it down. I guess this is just a variation of bluescreen?

I have a 6421 PCI SATA card btw.

I got a VIA card in my PC, so I guess I should be able to use this tool, but I don't got drivers installed for the card (so if this tool gets my Hitachi in Mode B Windows wouldn't see it).

Anyways, what I wanna ask is if I should install drivers for my VIA card? I currently use it for flashing Sammy's and BenQ's, and that goes perfectly without drivers (using DosFlash32 in Vista). As some time ago I installed Vista with SP1 and it auto-installed drives for my VIA card and I wasn't able to flash drives with it anymore, so that kinda sucked and I don't wanna end up with that problem again.

I am trying to get my hitachi 59 in mode b using both mode_b 32 and 16bit versions using winxp32.
I know that my port is 9880 from dosflash, but when I try to set it, I get endless fullstops (......)
Which means that it cannot find the drive in the port!
I just flashed the drive this morning with the original firmware, in order to flash again and spoof
my liteon...

Any thoughts would be appreciated wink.gif

***Update***

I have written a new exe that uses a different PortIO driver. This new one seems far more stable than the Geek's Hideout IO driver that I used previously, and as of now has not caused any BSOD's..

The only disadvantage is that there is a small install that needs to be done, but it's very simple, only needs to be done once and details are in the rarr....

Usage is the same....

It on Xbins & fixed link

thanks to Lahey and DeViLs360 for testing

Although I already got my 79 hacked with your original method, I just wanted to say nice work!

Thanks again!

Did my first V79 today without even rebooting the computer. smile.gif They usually take a painstakingly long time, but this time the customer went "That's it?". wink.gif

.....In other words, Thanks Podger!
