well, they just combined the connectivity kit v2 and rs232 cable in one board with an added option to use usb cable instead of rs232 to read the key from liteon.

you'll still have to do the soldering work to bridge the two points for tx and rx. you'll still need a compatible sata connection in your PC, you still need slax to get 78/79 in b mode although b mode for 59 and under is automatic,  you still need to open your PC to connect the sata cable and power cable.

for those already have connectivity kit and rs232, this product is not a necessity but good for those who want to start from scratch.

Right. Plus they want $50 for this thing, a complete ripoff just to grab keys off a drive. I just cant see how they're asking $50 dollars JUST to grab keys off a drive. Thats really lame....

$50!!!!

still nice to have the all in one but most people use slax atleast that i know of and even with the 79fk theres nothing  people need to buy that they cant download. apart from the lite-on reading that needs the com1 lead

According to foundmy.com this device will bypass the need to do any soldering at all to the drive. Plug and play.

Well if that's the case it's definitely worth $50 for me.

Foundmy.com must have found their heads up their asses. Warbeast is right, the tx and rx jumpers must be reconnected. You still have to solder, and even if you didn't, $50 just to pull some keys is highway robbery.

Pretty decent deal there with the bonuses, and usually he knows his stuff (well, aside from proper english on the front page at any rate.) Do your research if you are going to order from foundmy though, especially if you are on any type of timetable towards actually getting the stuff in hand - if I was even remotely considering such a product I'd not pre-order based on the current info.

No where does it say the latest lite-ons will be plug and play with this product - those "cut" (pretty tough to cut something when that consists of basically not putting on a 0ohm resistor at flow time) leads still likely have to be bridged meaning disassembly in the least, there are other fairly simple ways around soldering in such cases though. (thinking something like xbox D0 or lpc rebuild methods with the rigid springsteel-ish wires.)

So with this.. no more pc opening, slax using and do weird stuff?
Just plug this bitch in and u can flash with usb? (for all versions?)

no no no,

this is just a connectivity kit with RS232/USB support for the lite-on, i suppose we still need to solder the 2 bridges on the lite-on pcb. slax will still need to be used for the hitachi 78 & 79, you still need to open your pc to make the connections.

the advantages of this, is that we don't need to handle two devices soldered with each other with wires, and USB support, which are 2 great advantages, but it's way overpriced ($45), i'll wait until some other team does a similar product at a decent price

I was with it until reading that. $36, ouch. It was less than $6 to ship my 79 passkey from Mexico.

Maybe an installer would pay $50-60 for this and $10 for worldwide shipping.  In any case I do think it is overpriced I paid $20 for a connectivity kit and it puts drives into mode b.  A "via SATA card" cost be about 9.99 so that puts be at 29.99 for a nice setup.  If I buy a serial device it will put me at $50 total.  So I guess it does add up.

I need write method for those lite on drives.  Forget about spoofing.
