Need Help With No Drive Detected While Flashing
« on: August 30, 2008, 04:05:00 PM »

Help!

I have a samsung ms25 drive.  I've followed the 2008 textbook instructions right up until the booting off the USB drive.  I click Y to accept the Iprep, then turn on the 360.  I type dSam serial and get no drive detected?  While setting up Iprep I have a jmicron sata driver it seems fine,  I have a asus p5k-e wifi motherboard.  Any suggestions?

It says no drive detected then error sam-ofw.bin does not exist, but it makes a cfw file???

Power on PC
 boot to USB..
at the disclaimer window where it asks you to type Y, this is where you should plug the SATA cable in to your samsung,
then type Y, enter.
type dSam "serial"
enter,
 Y to accept,
Enter...
count to 10 and turn the xbox on. It should begin to read wait until it says SUCCESS in green and then unplug SATA cable shut down xbox and PC
Now do it all again except this time fSam "serial" etc...

Hope that helped!

Still no luck with the bad flash method, it always hangs at the port part.  I've tried the 10/3/5 second wait method, i've tried powering on at different parts.  My bios still reads the dvd player no problem, just cannot flash it.........   i'm so confused on this.  Is there a way to reset the drive via jumping pins?

Also. the 360 will still play movies on the drive, but when you put an original game in, it says this needs to be played on a 360 console.  If that helps.  If I plug the audio/v cables in to see what that 800 firmware guard disabler does, it just says the same error.  I don't have any burnt games to try, is it possible they would work?

Did it work before?

If you only tried 'dsam' and it worked before - Im guessing there is something you are not telling us.

Here is exactly what I did.  I loaded the iextreme fw into Iprep and selected my sata port.  Made a bootable USB drive.  Bonded my 360 to pc case and rebooted machine.  Booted off USB fine.  Hit Y.  turned on 360, typed dsam serial and it backed up my firmware, then rebooted both machines.  Then fsam serial, loaded firmware to xbox, said success datasum, rebooted both machines.  360 loaded no problem, but won't read original games, now I cannot access the dvd rom to flash it without it hanging on port after hitting 1 on master drive.

Right, do not try and do anything without a reputable persons say so.

It may already be a brick, but there is hope.

Load into windows, open firmware toolbox and open the sam-ofw.bin found in \backups\1234567\12345\

Obviously 1234567\12345 is the serial you used.

See if the key is valid.

Let us know what it says, before trying ANYTHING else.

I xxx'd out the first 4 and last 4 numbers incase that is sensitive information, how do I test if the key is valid.  And of course, thank you for your help.  Every step I took originally was from the 2008 textbook, it would be nice if the drive is not a brick, I don't want to have to order another drive...

Right, back that up - lose that you are dead in the water.

Back it up a few times, to a few different places while we work on resurrecting your drive.

I bet if yuo open the sam-cfw.bin in the same folder as OFW they key will be 000000's 7474747474 or FFFFFFFFFF's

Could you jutst confirm.?

Your issues is now 'unlocking' the drive for flashing, using the via6421 card is the easiest way, or you can use the enable 0800 mode disc - although, it appears it wont play this due to an invalid key.

I honestly believe getting a via card or hoping dosflash will bruteforce it are your best options.

Let me know what you prefer and  Ill assist you further. I log in every day so dont get impatient.

Thank you for being a breathe of fresh air!  As of right now its really late and my girlfriend is not happy with my obession to fix this.  But yes, my cfw file is all FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF's.  Tommorow is labour day and I can't get a via card, but that is an option.  Brute force sounds like an idea until then.

THanks again

Just tried dos flash, it wants to resent intro command.  I do that and power off my xbox and it never stops rotating numbers with m's.  Also if I skip that step I can see my drive listed as option 0 but it says invalid flash chip..

once you get to the part where it says you want to resend the MTK vendor intro command. and you press Y does it show your drive?

have you unplugged ALL your IDE/SATA cables except the 360?
