Spoof As Sam Or Hitachi?
« on: August 27, 2008, 09:19:00 AM »

I am replacing a friends broke down Sammy ms25 for a BenQ. My friend bought his 360 (Refurb) from an online repair shop.(which was later flashed to ix13)

I noticed this in iPrep (v6.1) \/

Original Firmware:Hitachi v59 [spoofed samsung firmware]

So does that mean that the drive that used to be installed was a Hitachi v59 and was then replaced with a Samsung ms25 and spoofed to a Hitachi...and if so, would that mean when I flash the benq I should spoof the FW as a Hitachi instead of a Samsung?

When I type it I realize it looks obvious that I should spoof it as a Hitachi but I hate to assume with someone else's Sh!t.

Also when I opened the FW in FWTB the drive key had a triple F and double 9(I tried twice and got the same key). I only say this because in textbooks tut I remember it saying something about repeat characters could indicate a bad read.
Is that the case here or am I mistaken?

Thanks for any input!

No there is a Samsung ms25 currently installed.

But iprep says:

Original Firmware: Hitachi v59 [Spoofed Samsung Firmware]

My theory:

The original retail drive was a Hitachi v59 which was then replaced with a Samsung ms25 and spoofed as Hitachi v59, hense "Samsung spoofed firmware" meaning it's Samsung firmware that has been spoofed...in this case to Hitachi v59. If that's correct, then when I do the swap to the Benq I should be spoofing it as a Hitachi not a Samsung....right?

If that was at all confusing let me know and I'll clarify.

Spoof means the drive claims to be another one.. yes i would say you spoof it as a Hitachi V59 as the current Samsung MS25 was also spoofed as a H. v59.. Spoof the benQ as Hitachi also.

Hey thanx for the re-assurance guys! I was pretty sure thats what I should do, but like I said, not my xbox so I didnt wanna be PRETTY sure, I wanted to be 100% positive.

So I flashed the BenQ with the FW spoofed as a Hitachi 59 and everything went very smoothly.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

On another note...I guess that Textbooks tut was incorrect about have repeat characters because the drive key started; 1FFF...etc, but it was no problem the key was valid.

Once again, THANK YOU to the two guys willing to throw in there 2 cents! (Tidyboy and Darren)
