Dump V79's (and Maybe 78's) Without A Disc In The Drive!

Ok, so to a few of us, and those that actually read Podgers readme - you will know he coded memdump79 to dump firmware without the need for a Disc to be in the drive.

Well, it is confirmed as working.

After unlocking (read This thread)

Type

CODE
memdump79 X 12000 8 8000 orig.bin

[X is your drive letter]

Press enter, now in your Folder you will have an Orig.bin - Open this in toolbox and see that it is a valid firmware file and displays the correct key.

Handy for those who have knackered lasers wink.gif

N.B. I posted this in a seperate thread because no-one ever reads anything but the first post, as shown by podgers typo and people still asking retarded questions - and it might just get someone's attention who thought, ah Toolbox wont work for me.

And before anyone says you need to read the unlock disc, thats a CD therefore using a different lens/laser than your standard DVD smile.gif

^ Cheers Textbook wink.gif

Will also kindly ask podger later if he can code a flashsec so we can:

A) flash it in DOS

B)Have a release of:

The ultimate Hitachi iXtreme firmware pack

Glad you got it working ( in the end )....

And Yes the Ironey wasn't lost on me, that the biggest adavantage of my dumper is that you didn't need a laser AND for my unlocker to need ones.. LOL :-) ....
Although, I was hoping that the DVD/CD laser separation would help... is this confirmed by anyone with a dodgy laser.....

Anyone want to try a 78 and confirm the memdump79 works, mine you it should the code on the 78 is pretty much identical to the 79 apart from the bit test....

I had hoped that it would work over USB2SATA also but no joy on that score...

Oh and don't forget most of the C++ code came from Seventhson's site http://www.kev.nu/360/dvd.html so big thanks there........

All the techy stuff is in the download as text file..... if you want source let me know...

Well, i can get the drive in mode b and can still eject and what not until i put a cd in.
not sure if it would help, but it is deffinately worth trying if you end up making a flashsec file

Thank you for all the work you have done and for releasing it even more.

Slimgrip,
thanks for the update....... I had figured that that might be the case, but didn't want to say without confirmation.... I didn't really want to mess with my laser to prove it either...

You wouldnt believe the nightmare i made of it m8 laugh.gif

To start i popped the unlock disc in the 360 & it played on a continuous loop, great i thought i can unlock it & use memdump wink.gif
Put the drive in my pc, connected to my VIA8237 but the unlock disc wouldnt play, put drive back in 360 & played.
Tried it back on 8237 & no joy again! wtf?
Put it on my 6421 & read right away, ran the memdump & fw was invalid when opened it fwtoolbox blink.gif

Thought right im gonna have to dump in toolbox so i took the sammy from my own 360 & put the laser in the 79. Ran the unlock disc & then it dawned on me, i hadnt run the "79unlock" command on my first attempts.

After realising what a thick cnut i am i ran memdump after unlocking & bingo, key patched to new drive & spoofed.

The lesson i learned was to keep away from 360s when im hungover tongue.gif

I've tried this with a 78 hitachi that wasn't reading discs. I'm not sure if the laser is bad or not because the drive won't spin up at all even after trying all fixes on the drive motor. Anyway, I got the drive into mode B, recognized it fine in windows, FW Toolbox also recognized it. I ran memdump79 exactly as specified, but i just got errors and an unreadable firmware in the toolbox. Any ideas? Is this likely a problem with my drive or memdump79, has anyone else dumped a 78 this way yet?

If the drive wont read the unlock cd you cant dump the fw.
I had the same problem & the firmware i dumped wouldnt open in toolbox.

If you cant get the drive to read a cd/dvd by changing the laser or putting the board in a working hitachi a programmer is your only hope.

Albino, what chipset were you using? do you want to pm the dump.... had a few instances where only the 1st 32k would dump,,, that enough coz the key is in there...
