Try updating to the latest VIA drivers (5.6) I was having this exact problem and updating my drivers from the ones included on the CD with the card to the latest ones solved it..

http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/windows_v-raid_v580a.zip

That should be a direct link to the drivers I used (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Anyone having problems DO THIS. I was having problems left and right, nothing seemed to work properly until I ran to the store and picked up a 6421 card. I managed to get it into mode B through windows but it would take a dogs age to load the audio file, then it would error out on not being able to read the disc through toolbox. I updated the drivers and it read the CD-R instantly, and toolbox worked perfectly. Incredible! Thanks!

Done! drivers updated  this is a big must

What I used
Branded PC
Windows Vista 32bit
Via 6421A PCI Card - Hitachi 79 on CH1 no other s/ata devices connected to card
On Board S/ATA - 2 HDD's and 1 DVD-RW
Windows Media Player
ModeB by Slax2.1
Hitachi Power by XBOX with Video lead connected

Tried a PCI Sil3512 S/ATA card which failed, it played audio fine but wouldn't unlock.

PC had on-board S/ATA which hosted the Primary HDD, this didn't cause a problem but the S/ATA DVD-Drive did. Once slax had finished running, I powered off the PC  I then disconnected the internal DVD drive and booted into windows, I left the Hitachi connect the entire time ejecting the tray twice during windows splash. All drivers updated from manufacturers sites.

Big thanks to Podger, OggyUK, textbook and everyone else who contributes towards the scene.

(ok so I burnt my audio DVD then downloaded it to my pc, bought a CMD of ebay and then my xbox powered off... Anyone know why, save me reading anything?.....no, fine I'm blaiming maximus) jester.gif

ok so im a little confused on what exactly is temporary. At first i thought the unlock itself, not the flashing, was temporary, therefore i would just have to connect the drive to my pc every time i power it on and off and just run the unlock again. But i've power downed my 360 multiple times already and even unplugged the main power for a bit and plugged it back in, but my unlock seems to stay. Even after multiple power downs and restarts, i can just put in a burned game and it loads and pays perfectly. Is this how its supposed to be? is something else supposed to be temporary?

Been reading through this post, and others; Textbook's tut, and vid....

I've got a Hitachi 79FL.  I've got the VIA chipset, with the latest drivers.  SATA connected to "input 1".  Can get it into ModeB.  Can get it recognized and assigned a drive letter in Windows XP Home SP3.

Can not get the autoplay (or any play) to work, in order to run the WAV.  I insert the CD with the "image.cue" on it, drive spins up...and nothing.  Windows thinks no disc is inserted.

The CD does work, on this computer, using another cd/dvd drive. It autoplays, and I can hear the sweet, dulcet tunes Podger created.

Anyone run into this?  Is the Hitachi effd?

Thanks.

Ydkmy:
Nah due... the .cue is an image file for an Audio CD...

Use ImgBurn, select burn image and pick up the .cue file and burn.....

This will make a standard audio CD that will play...

Speedy523:
It's the flash unlock that is temporary.. So you would need to unlock anytime you wan to flash... Most likely you would only ever want to do this once.... to hack.

Thanks for the reply Podger.

Sorry, should of be clearer in my op...the audio cd works.  I used ImgBurn, as you described, and burned the image of the .cue file.  It successfully (auto)plays in my stereo cdplayer, my laptop cd player, and my 'puter's other cd drive.  Just not the 79FL.

well then it could be a combo of your laser and the media you are using... these lasers don't always read burnt media very well, this normally applies to DVD+R DL but it may also be a problem with CD-R also.. Try some other media if you can... does a regular cd play..

Ah, the laser.
Regular CD does not work, and regular DVD does not work in the 79FL.

To double check it's not a SATA driver issue, I hooked up the drive I'm trying to go to (I'm trying to spoof a Samsung for the fooked 79FL) and was able to play a regular CD, DVD, and...a CD-R (I didn't want to use the 79unlock CD).
So, if no media works in the 79FL, and the SATA channel seems to be working....it's gotta be the laser right?

Is there anything I can about this?  No laser means no ROM dump?  Which means no spoof?

just wanted to throw in my two cents for people still troubleshooting

i followed the tutorial exactly
my xp machine was freezing on both silicon and 6421a during `79unlock f`
solution turned out to be timing of the wav sound.  windows media player was too slow to pause it early enough.  VLC worked first time

my only other problem was a failure: cannot read from drive
after getting it in mode b, i switched from the silicon to the 6421a, and it started working again
it's possible that my silicon is set for raid - i haven't looked into that yet

hope this helps someone smile.gif

Sidenote, if you're running Vista 64bit, running the 79unlock app in XP sp2 compatibilty mode will alleviate any lockups when entering the unlock [drive letter] command.

My firmware toolbox keeps freezing!
This is soo annoying,
rite ill go through what i did.

My chipset is Via 8251

I but the drive into mode b with slax v2.1
Used the soft unlock,
got the message "done"
Tried to read firmware with toolbox, it freezes the second i click raw dump firmware as.
tried with versions 4.6 and 4.8.

Ive tried changing the sata port ive used.
tried changing the chipset configuration in bios (tried in RAID, changed it and tried in IDE)

I updated drivers aswell, still didnt work.

I dont know what to do from now

Anyone know how to help.
