QUOTE(sniper_man @ Aug 4 2008, 09:44 AM) *

we defo need a more detailed tutorial up. with screenshots/video

i've read this on the homepage:
------
9. This is a tempory unlock, (0x5BD) is in RAM and would need to be done each time you power the drive, although I've posted how to by pass this with the drive unlocked with a passkey.....
------

does that mean whenever the 360 is turned off we have to do the whole procedure again?

Any one got an answer for this yet?

Its a temporary unlock of the drive NOT a temporary flash.

The flash is and always will be permanent, this unlocks it so we can write code to the Drive.

Im about to do a full guide for Textbook, but a quick pointer

Podger used his notes for the release as the guide so it was inevitably a bit 'short hand'

The command IS

79unlock X

not

unlock79 as originally stated, we knew this at time of testing but we were just pleased to announce it.

Good job Oggy, can't wait for the tutorial. Just one question, which SATA cable should I get? Will a SATA to USB cable work for the Hitachi 79fk? Thanks to everyone and podger

Dang, i just bought a smd hotair rework station aswell, argggg

Anyway, well done podger, i got that 79FL drive sorted, the slow laser activity was the component near where you would solder the FFC connector to, i replaced it with one from a 78 drive as i knackered the orig one up with too much heat near the FFC solder point area, sorted it now anyhow, thanks all the same.

By the way, there is supposed to be a particular make of pc mainboard around that sees Hitachi 79 drives without needing to fit any chip, so im told, guy used to do bowlers, maybe he will spill the beans now its been cracked.

Good job

modeb with slax

Play WAV

play then pause WAV

run 79unlock X

Use toolbox.

I think I'm missing something here. I thought slax couldn't put a 79 in modeb and that a passkey is required for that.

Wrong, Slax always has but Firmware Toolbox it times out when trying to run code.
