Wrong, Slax always has but Firmware Toolbox it times out when trying to run code.

Now, it doesnt.

Then my Slax disc is the wrong version or scratched to hell   tongue.gif

Anyway, this just made my week! 2 79s I'm going to try this on when I get home. Thank god! No more pain in the ass scraping with my exacto knife.  biggrin.gif

Goodbye passkey, you served us well

Just want to say thanks to all that are involved in this project. I bought a Passkey last week but had not got round to installing it. Well I have no need now.

I have just run through the insturctions for the 079 drive and can confirm it works without a problem.

I used a Slax 2.1 CD and a PCI Via sata card, one thing for people to remember that when you insert the 79 Cd and a DVD into the drive is to close the drive with the eject button pressing it twice and while the drive is closing to press eject again to stop the drive from ejecting the disk.

I can now get back to where i was before my old 360 died with an AHA chip problem.

Once again thanks everyone involved.  biggrin.gif

pretty much all new HDMI models will have Liteon.

You can find benq models still but it depends on how old of stock stores carry.  Also you might find some used systems with hitachi 79, so you should be ok.

Sorry for my english....

I would like to say a BIG THANKS for this !
How many people don't want to use passkey into save Guarantly ?
Now, it's possible !
podger do a very good job.

Do you think Maximus is coming soon with a new Maximus 360 Firmware Toolbox ? biggrin.gif
I think he hate podger laugh.gif

Im sure in the last readme file in firmware toolbox 4.6 maximus stated that a future version possibly would include the capability of flashing a v79 WITHOUT a passkey using JUST the software

suprise suprise  rolleyes.gif

That just means he was working on it, not that it included this method.

I think its fair to say no-one thought of this method before podger (unless SeventhSon did)

if anyone wants a hdmi console with either benq or hitachi 79 try your local cash converters (uk) and ask if they have any hdmi models in, most likely wont be a liteon

Congrats to podger et al in finding this solution!

Remember guys, if you're flashing any of the Hitachi drives there's always the risk of bricking since you're patching the sectors. Getting to the TSOP on the 79 makes it that much harder to resolve, so make sure you're flashing it on a clean install of XP to significantly reduce the risk smile.gifsmile.gif
