i need help desperatley, i flashed my samsung ms25 dvd drive but lost power half way through, problem 1. then i have lost my back up of the original flash drive i made with i-prep, problem 2.

is my xbox now scrap i can it be saved from xbox heaven.

please help

Depending on where the flashing failed, you might be able to retrieve the DVD key from your drive with an external programmer. If the drive key is not recoverable, then your Xbox will never be able to play 360 games again (unless a method is eventually found to retrieve the key from the motherboard - not much hope at this time).

If i buy a new drive i assume that they need to be flashed to the x-box?

for info the drive flashing failed at around 20% of the third bank.
also the drive is not recognised at all now, through i-prep.

p.s. thanks for the offers but kinda strapped for cash.

The key is at 4000 (of 40000, ist bank ) on a samsung... So if you got the key when you dumped the drive and inserted it into the iXtreme it should be on the drive....

You "should" be able to dump the flash device with MTKflash or dosflash, luckily with sammy or benq the drives don't have to be functional to get the flash. You will probably have to use a hexeditor to get the key..

Just don't do any more flashing or erasing til you're sure

ya i would try a hot swap with some other drive that will show in mtkflash/dosflash, you should be able to get the key from the firmware and do the same thing to flash it.

i really need to put DONT PANIC! in big letters in my Sig.

I have been burned with the E bay X box drive swap cha cha a few times so I have a nice collection of frames , fans, cases & laser's.. But I have an interesting issue here.. I "might" have a correct drive board to match the mother board.. but the DVD boards motor drive is almost kaput.. it spins the disc up to maybe 20 rpm the laser operates.. in surges.. and stops.. I have tried swapping a different frame with that DVD board.. and the whimpy motor problem follows the DVD board.

I have never tried flashing the drive, nor reading it ( just do not have that hardware/ software ).

Who can I send this DVD board to to see if the key is recoverable. In California preferable..

ok - i feel as though my poor 360 is returning from the gloomy touches of death.

1 - hex editor sounds a bit out of my league - been repairing and flashing 360's for a while but this is the first problem i have faced flashing a sammy ms-25.

2 - i'm i little confused about installing a new drive. say i wernt going to flash it, would a new drive just plug and play? or is that why you enter the console serial number when doing a flash?

any help is greatfully received.

A new drive can work but it needs the Key and to be spoofed as the same model i.e. ms25

A editor is only a tile editor that shows the file in it's raw format.....

ok podger you sound like your on to something, feel like a tutorial would lead me to enlightenment. do you know of one. or could you explain it through and through to a noob?

this is for my own 360 will be psoting pictures once LED mod is complete.

Yeah, just look at textbooks tutorial, the section on 79 using external programmer explains the key insertion and spoofing...

BUT you need the KEY..... if you can get the key then you must be able to read the drive an also flash it... if that's the case why would you need a new drive....

One thing you need to remember.... as you were hacking you were effectively upgrading it to a ms28 spoofed as a ms25, there may not be enough code for the drive to boot but there may be enough for the firmguard to work, so you will need to treat it as an ms28 and use the bad flash method etc....

Samsungs are virtually unbrickable!

The drives are quite protected against bricking, but the console is far from it, lose they key and you are fucked.

Dosflash will 'bruteforce' where mtkflash fails with Samsungs, just try and revive that key and proceed from there.

BTW the backup of the orig.bin is kept in a:\backup\1234567\12345\sam-ofw.bin....... Just in case you just haven't looked there........
