Going From Ixtreme 1.41 To The Old 3.2 Plus Drive Swap

Hi,

I have a Samsung drive MS25 flashed with 3.2 in my 360. It is having lots of trouble reading disks. It is on its way out.
 I have replacement  TS drive available, it is currently flashed with Ixtreme 1.41. The replacement drive is in another 360 that is unreliable.. RROD may or may not boot so i can't rely on booting with 0800 disk, do I just flash the drive as if it was an MS28?


Also I no longer have the original firmware for my current TS drive that is on its way out. But I figure I can dump the current firmware that is on it (3.2) and use that as the "original" firmware when I flash the replacement drive. Right?

Just swap the PCB's, you can always update the 3.2 if you want, in much the same way as if it were stock...

Swapping PCBs is too advanced for me.

I got my firmware from my current drive .. I just did mtkflash r /m orig.bin  which is actually the 3.2 anyway.. I guess I just need to unlock the replacement drive so I can flash it.

Ahh.. I found my answer in another post.. I didn't know if you had to use the 0800 or if the 10 sec would work with a VIA... duh.. ok.. I am gonna try that.

Sweet it worked...I now have 2 flashed TS drives that work with my xbox.. This I will update one to the latest ixtreme and move on from 3.2 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ...

I spoke too soon. Swapping the PCB looks easy. I didn't really look into it but now that  I am checking the DVD pot on the flaky drive I see how easy it is. The PCB is just 4 ribbon cables and a tab... cool

Yeah! I didn't really want to comment on your abilities, and had already posted again to say it was sorted, so I said nothing.....

Hopefully you kept the key for the RRoD system,  you should consider and Xecutor RROD kit to repair the broken one....

I kept the key from the RROD 360. That 360 already had an improper Xclamp install by the time it got to me. It was so tight I needed vice grips to get it off. Needless to say, the GPU and CPU were toast. I tried to bring it back but nothing.  

At least I will be getting some use out of the DVD drive.

I got a multimeter and lowered the DVD pot on the failing drive to 3.02 and still got dirty disk error. The same disk is playing fine in this "new to me" TS drive. Should I stock up on these TS drives or what?
