Sata Pci Card Won't Do Hitachi's?
« on: May 17, 2008, 10:59:00 AM »

Ok, so I just bought a new computer and got a VIA 6421 SATA PCI card to go with it.

I can do BenQ's and Samsung's alright, but for some reason it doesn't handle Hitachi's very well. It gives some weird 'delay' error when I boot the Slax CD, like "Port not responging, might be slow" or something similar.

Is there anything I can do to fix this or am I screwed on Hitachi's? Do SATA PCI cards differ much? 'Cause I got a pretty cheap eBay one.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I do, I believe it's the IC9 chipset (I have a Asus P5K mobo). I Think... but don't know if I tried it with the built in SATA port or not. Oh well, I guess we'll find out if that works when I get my new Hitachi drive from eBay (old one had crappy mechanics).

the 47 hitachi can have problems with a VIA sata card. try using your onboard and it should be fine

Well that worked like clockwork.... NOT! Bricked my new drive, f%ck! >_<

I could get it into mode B, but in Windows 360FWTB kept lagging about, and when I finally got to flash it it kept giving me error messages.

"Can't confirm write to sector blabla. Retry? Yes/No". I picked no on all events, took half an hour, then hooked up my old computer and tried to flash it while it was still in mode B. No good. No matter what I tried it kept failing the flash sequence and I ended up bricking it. God F'in damn. Now I have to buy another drive, and on top of it all, hook my old computer, that's just a motherboard and some stuff, up on the Floor, just to flash Hitachi's.

Ugh. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)

Did you at least get a good dump with a valid key..... Which flasher did you use... Hopefully not the internal one, you use the flash4, it's far more compatible with all sorts of SATA chipsets than the internal one....

Managed to get a dump. However, it doesn't matter any more. I'm NOT trying again, every try so far has cost me a new drive. I'll just plug in the old computer whenever someone comes over with a Hitachi, which thankfully isn't so often now a days.

A cheap USB2Sata usually does the trick...my via 6421 never works either...
