What SATA chipset are you using? You may want to try another SATA port or another PC with a VIA chipset. Try a shorter SATA cable as well if you're using a long one.

Worst case ya have to have the chip pulled off and flashed with a programmer.

I'm using a via6421 chipset, and the sata cable is very short about a foot, just long enough to do the job more or less, i flashed loads of samsungs and never had this issue its a pain in the ass

i have another sata card some where i think its a silicon image 3114 i'll try that,
how much would a chip programmer cost if i had to take that route

That SI card isn't going to work with that drive, the Via one ya have is what ya should be using.

Willem programmers run around $50 to $100, just depends on what version ya get, then adapters cost around $50 a pop as well. Most of them already have the PLCC socket built in them, so you wouldn't have to get an adapter for any Samsung drives ya did, and you'll need a PLCC extractor tool as well to remove the chip from the socket without screwing it up.

Try another SATA cable if ya haven't already, maybe that one has just flashed it's last drive.
