Page 170 of textbook's tutorial will explain... Samsungs use the same devices as Hitachi 78/79, it's just in a PLCC package rather than TSOP...... The exoy is a lot harder on the Samsung's also....

What in the world are you talking about here?  This is not even the same thing as before?  You broke the tray now?  I thought you have 2 Samsung drives?  If you have 2 drives use the tray assembly from the good one and swap the laser to make 1 good one.  it sounds like your making the situation worse.

the tray was broken to begin with, see i was given two 360s with broken dvd drives one would not open or close  or read discs, the other just would not read discs... when i opened the one that did not move i found that the gears to move the tray were gone... i have repaired one and want to repair the other but the pcb board needs replaced and so do thoes gears

this is different than what you originally said.  this is your first post:

Im Not sure this is the right place for this so please forgive me if so, but I have two busted 360s right now one of which the problem i am unsure of and the other will not read dvds. in the unknown problem one  the dvd drive still works. I switched the drives only to find out that i couldnt because of the security measures within the 360. is there a way to change the serial key or whatever that is that regulates whether or not the dvd drive is the same?

Just very confusing.  I would get another samsung drive and have someone on here get the firmware dumped from the bad pcb and reflash the new one.
