Drive Key ?
« on: May 05, 2008, 12:05:00 PM »

I am bidding for a new motherboard for the 360 because my one had a short circuit. The drive i currently got is a flashed Hitachi/LG drive and i cannot seem to understand this whole drive key thing. Simply put, can i simply connect a my old drive to this new motherboard, or is it a bit more technical than that?

You will need to get the original drive key or drive firmware from whomever is selling it for it to work. Without this key that motherboard would be a total waste of money.

Drive Key ?

Think of the drive key as an actual key. The key on the disc drive must match the key on the motherboard. You can change the key on the dvd drive with firmware toolbox, however the key on the motherboard is set in stone. Therefor, if you are going to mixmatch your previous dvd drive with a new motherboard, you must have the key of the motherboard. Then you can change the drive key to match it with the firmware toolbox.
