Help Replacing Dvd! :(
« on: April 26, 2008, 05:21:00 PM »

I have checked the tutorials and got partial answers but not all, hence my posting.

I have a TS-H943 MS28 dvd rom. Never been flashed. It has been scratching up my games badly to the point they are not playable. So i decided to replace the dvd drive. I bought a new TS-H943, but this time the MS25. My options were to either interchange the circuit board from my old drive to the new one, or leaving as is and extracting/installing the original key drive. I decided with the first route which is i thought is easier.

When i replaced the circuit boards, installed in the console and tried to load up a game, i got a continuous "open tray" message. I've never had this message before, and other than scratching my disks my old player used to work fine. So don't know what's happened now...any ideas?

So i then changed back the circuit board and tried to go the key drive extracting route. This is where i'm stuck. I understand i have to use mtkflash to extract and the hex program to edit the keys, unfortunately I do not have a concise procedure. Can anyone help please? Please note i'm NOT trying to flash to read backups etc, only replacing my old unflashed dvd rom with a replacement new dvd rom.

Thanks in advance!!

Swapping the circuit boards should have worked just fine unless there is something wrong with your new drive.

Are you sure you had all the cables plugged into the circuit board correct?

Yes I checked the cables. They are fine.

The new drive is ok too as it played my music cd when i first plugged it in the xbox. So that rules out the new drive as being the culprit.

I played around with my old drive and circuit board and it really is acting erratic. Now it is saying "unplayable disk" all the time, even with my music cd that worked fine in the new drive. So at this point i'd simply prefer to copy the dvd key into my new drive. Can you help how to do this and then reinsert it in the new drive? Again i'm only trying to get this new drive operational and at this point am NOT looking to flash it to read backups etc. This help would really be appreciated! Please help..!
