Wait, so if signatures were only checked at startup. You could do the PlayStation 2 swap magic style hack.

You could just swap a retail disk for a backup right?

your forgetting one major thing, currently M$ is applying the new CB 1921 to Xenon consoles coming from M$ repair center and 4558/5761 have been found in  retail consoles since zephyr these CB's currently cannot be downgraded read about it here.

i think are best bet right now is to find a data sheet for that chip and get infectus in there to at least read if not write the firmware (if of course it cannot be done thru software).

Why bother to add epoxy if the firmware wasn't rewriteable?

Ok I didn't know about the hotswap (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  I was wonderin how people like grim above unban consoles, sounds like a real mission lol. But are these consoles that are unbanned in effect clones (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)  Can ms detect if the same console is logged in to live twice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)  And even if they cant I suppose if 1 get's banned they all get banned (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Ok so, here is some information I grabbed about MTK chip

It seems to be an hiden serial interface and a tool that works with wink.gif

This tool can extract and flash MT13x9 device, hope it can be useful with our dreaded new MTK1319L chip...

test and use at your own risk

This only even more strengthens my theory that MS Absolutely cannot detect flashed firmwares... They had to go and entirely change the current Drive of the 360... What is the only logical reason they would do this...Because they can't figure out who has flashed their firmware, so now they are doing everything they can to make it impossible again to flash... Time to go stockpile some 360's  :-)

I just bought 2-360 premiums.  Both had the older Benq that is flashable.  So I am guessing the new Lite-on drives aren't in retail 360s yet.  Manufacture date is 2-22-08 on both of them.

Had to grab them just in case my 360 RROD's or is banned someday, I got 2 backups.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I can confirm, that Microsoft currently is still shipping Refurb Benq Units,  Just got a Benq in the mail last week.  So you guys all waiting for your new 360 still has a chance.  This 360 Benq is dated from March 2008.

Throughout the thread only 1 person says it is quiter...

1 person then responded and stated he wouldn't think it is quiter since it looks like only the chip has been changed... same laser assembly...same tray etc etc.. (of course he doesn't have a new benq(lite-on)) drive.

I dont think this is the reason for a new drive, i think the reason behind it is simply production costs.

everyone said the xbox v1.6 was an anti mod box but it was more about cost cutting, quite simply integrated controller chips are cheaper then seperate components.

I just got back a Refurb unit from the US(well Mexico really) factory about 2 weeks ago(it was sent mid-March). It was *NOT* one of these drives. It was the old BenQ. I was able to read/flash it.

So as of 2 weeks ago, they don't seem to be in the US.

http://personal.inet...ents/index.html

The link to the documents page from the link posted by Kaiser is dead. So here's the alternate link I found. It has some very useful looking info - like pinouts for 13x9 chips.

Hope that helps.
