What console do you have? Core, premium, elite.....?
Doesnt really matter.  It came back from the repair center like this, so one would think its only a matter of time before we start seeing them come in new consoles.

@Caster, Unless, it gets cracked really quicky, M$ might cancel the order and get more 79's....

There seems to be few Lite-On drives on the firmware page with very similar part numbers i.e. DH-16D2P, and also some of the OEM's offer patches for their models...

v79's are history. MS now has a vendor agreement with lite-on. Wont happen.

@roboguy, are you sure,

Sometimes, it's better the devil you know...

At least you can mod a 79,

the Benq first arrived in late '06, it was august before the average individual could extract a DVD key and the end of October before C4eva first firmware arrived....

If I got a console with one of these drives today I be pretty pissed

It's quite possible this has an MCU (Multi-Chip Unit) with the flash embedded; it's also quite possible it has an OTP (One Time Programmable) area for the serial with the firmware integrated instead of on embedded flash, especially if it's designed specifically for the 360 (this is something I've always laughed about, using a generic PC drive arch. in a "next gen" machine instead of designing the drive more tightly into the security chain.) Though, to a degree, I can't see them bothering to add epoxy unless it was still vulnerable in some way.

What if the chip manufacturers and Microsoft just made a BGA chip. Then you couldn't get at the pins w/o a shit load of work and effort.

Compare the DG-16D2S model number with this Lite-On drive. I bet that this drive might just be the next kreon drive.

And which was the problem the console had when it was sent to M$ for repair that made them change it´s drive? Also was the drive flashed when it was sent to the repair centre?

Can't see them using a BGA package in an effort to stop modders... Those BGA packages way are more expensive than the TQFP, you would only use them where space is an issue ( like 3g ), space just isn't an issue on this PCB and the 144 pin pincount is too low...

Yes.  This drive has a MT1309E controller and has an SPI flash.

So, different controller than the drive above and Samsung/BenQ drives.

Ya, that is what I thought, but in theory, a BGA would stop all "hard" modding efforts, like in the Hitachi 79. The epoxy obviously isn't working out....

Ah shit, that is what I thought, but still, model number is one letter off...thought it was worth a shot.
