Ms25 Drive With Hiccups
« on: February 03, 2020, 06:29:00 AM »

i bought a ms25 from a site a friend told me, because i bricked my 46 hl.

i spoofed it as a 46 and put ixtreme 1.4 in it. backups start fine but give a lot of dirty disc errors and loading failures. is it because its spoofed? or did i just buy a screwed up drive?

also it seems that the longer i use a backup, its performance gets worse after some time, then i burn a fresh one and that one works (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

i then ran the older backup in another xbox which also had ix1.4, and i concluded that the game even in that xbox had little freezes mainly audio stopping and that sort of thing, but they were minor problems. i guess that's enough to freeze the game up  in my xbox. its really strange. is the drive wrecking the backups?

if anyone could also give me some advice about dvd-dl quality, i would appreciate it

Its probably poor media for backups.......You should use Verbatim.

Firstly, what media are you using, if not Singapore Verbs then get some and try them...

Also, make sure you are not burning them at too fast a speed, 2.4x is always the recommended burn speed...

Failing this, you may want to look at tweaking the laser to increase the power, this fixes most issues... Might sound a bit Duh!, but as you can imagine, these drives were never instended for playing backups...

thx ill give it a look..

still its a manageable problem, cuz it only happens sometimes, but it still sucks

another thing, if my drive is in fact with the laser too weak, does that ruin my backups? cuz that happened over time with the ones i played the most

Before you tweak the pot, try just getting a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol.  Clean the dvd lens off with the alcohol on the q-tip.  I was having major problems, after I did that my backups worked fine.  Not the best media (Sony Accucore, made in Taiwan) either.

Your laser being too weak shouldn't mess up the backups, if anything the laser being too strong might, but I doubt it.  I know someone who has had some backups stop working after X amount of time, I don't know why, it just happens sometimes, very likely it is the media.
