If it works fine withit removed, Id say it was either:

Poor install to TSOP legs, or faulty passkey.....Is it official?

Out of interest -

What camera / lens combo did you use for that pic? What wattage/temp iron did you use to remove it, 300 degrees 'swiping rmeoved mine fine.

You should always use flux - it helps make a good solder joint.

Do you have a magnifying glass to check closer? Also, do you have the install points right?

It really does sound like a bad install.

Those Ixus' are good camers wink.gif

B+ C Are not in use.

Sorry to go off topic, but that's a really nice picture of the board.. you can really see how the traces are ripped out.

Point F + G (maximus passkey diagram) look bridged also.

Podger, Ive honestly never seen the traces make a difference unless they are bridged, Im happy to be corrected, we all learn in this game.

Although, no-one ever reports a knackered trace that works wink.gif

I didn't say a word........ check back no posts, i was leaving this one to you.... never do passkeys

But... If the 79 is AOK with no passkey, but stops with the passkey, then

1. Bad install
2. Bad passkey

Anyther day, another 5-6 tries to get this to work :\ Still failing.
Both drives still work when passkey is soldered off.

I've tried installing the wires to both the pins on the legs of the chip, and on the "flat" connectors used for the flatcable-install. As far as i know, when the passkey is working, it should blink a few times during boot, and the drive itself should appear in the bios.

When i boot without the passkey installed, the lens is shifting back and forth. It continues to do so when i connect the volt and grnd -wires. But as soon as i connect wire "a" (either to leg or the flat point), the drive does not get recognized in the bios, and does not even do that little lens-shifing thing.

I tried the trick with turning the power on and off a few times before booting, with no luck.

What is normal behavior for a successfull install for a passkey? Is the lens shifting on boot like normal, or does the passkey do some magic (modeB and all) that makes it NOT shift the lens?

Back to the original question, 2,3,8 need to be connected for the drive to work as normal again.

Does the drive work without the passkey, if 2-3-8 are disconnected ?

He has already said it works fone with the passkey removed.

Gotta be install related or dodgy passkey.

What's 2, 3, 8.... do you mean pins 18, 19 & 24 of the flash device....

18, 19 are only going to test points... However, 24 is the groung pin and would absolutely need to be connected for the board to work....

A small update ;

Some more tests, this time with a multimeter! (is that the english word?) testing-device!
Everything seems OK! Besides that point "H" and "I" on the passkey itself are "connected".
Theres no bridge (hardly any solder at all), but theres a connection between the two.
I also checked the legs on the chip (on the passkey) and theres no bridge there aswell.

That doesnt seem right, can anyone confirm ? o_O

i just checked my passkey and points H and I are not connected
