"to Play This Game... Insert Into 360 Console" After Iprep W
« on: April 09, 2008, 10:35:00 AM »

I am using a via 6421 card with my xbox BENQ drive.
Here is what i did:

IPREP created a cdr bootup disc
read the firmware
went into windows copied from "(my serial)" to "1234567 12345" under my partitioned drive
booted into iprep
erased firmware
wrote firmware
booted up xbox, plays DVD's but will not play xbox360 games, comes up as "If you want to play this game, please insert it into an xbox 360 console"

I used the iXtreme firmware 12x, im not sure which version but not the most recent. I have heard that i need to re-flash the drive back to the original firmware and try again with a different hacked firmware veersion. Where can i find the original firmware? Any ideas on what i should do?
HELP!

You need to 100% STOP!

Do not delete, format prepare or flash anything.

You have flashed a file with no key or invalid key

Can you open the firmware you dumped?

BenQ-OFW.bin in backups/1234567/12345/

See what DVD Drive key is in there.

You better hope its not 00000000000000 or FFFF's

I agree stop doing anything. Open your original firmware with Firmware Toolbox and make sure you have a good valid dump of your original firmware.

Everyone needs to learn to make sure they verify they have a good and proper dump of their firmware that contains your proper drive key before you ever flash anything to your drive.

I hope you have a good dump with a proper drive or or you just created a very over priced DVD player that wont load games anymore.

He might have.

BenQ's flashing process is - erase firmware from drive, write firmware to drive.

The erase has nothing to do with his backup file or boot device.

If you do not have a good backup of your original firmware or drive key then yes you are very screwed.

Forget this automated crap. I always mtkflash r /m CHECK.bin , check it in Windows using Toolbox, then mod the f/w and reflash it to the drive. Same with BenQ.

I'd cry if I ever had a corrupt/lost drive key! sad.gif

Well, if you done that many drives, youd know to read what firmtool shows when copying the  key over, you dont actually need toolbox as it displayes the key there and then for you

Hopefully he has a good backup i'd hate to see yet another person with a expensive paperweight, but if not then chaulk another one up to iprep once again.

No, chalk it up to another retarted user.  The software, if used properly in conjunction with the tutorial and all information is read (warnings, etc...), works perfectly fine.

as caster says , iprep works perfect if you follow the tutorials and read the on screen messages, i have never had a single problem  with iprep ,its a great program, even if your not experienced you should be able to use it.

You can pretty much verify most things with Firmtool, It'll warn if it doesnt appear right, and displays the drive key.

If a user (read Noob) doesnt check the key and proceeds with flashing, its not FirmTools fault.

Im sure the guides even say to dump the firmware twice to ensure its the same????? Never used one of the guides so I cant tell you.

I will however agree, iPrep/FirmTool makes it too Newbie Friendly, this then causes issues with the Newbie making mistakes.

iPrep/FirmTool are great programs that makes things much easier. But as in any great tool it means nothing if you don't fallow directions.
