Can I Flash Mt Benq With An Ich5 Sata Chipset?

My friend says I can, most guides say to the contrary and say I need an nforce or via chipset.  I have a gigabyte ga8IPE1000 pro rev 1 motherboard and I've seemed to make a successful iprep bootlader on my usb drive but should I try and take the plunge now or will I need to buy a PCI sata card for this?
